emijade: min-maxxing i think basically ruined WoW for me, I used to do the hardcore raidings and I stopped after OG Cataclysm (BC, WoTLK) then over time all the challenges get solved, everyone is obsessed with numbers and instead of working together to figure out hey we can clear this if we work together as a team! became more okay but my DPS/HPS is higher, and we need to be on this leaderboard. After mid-legion I just play casually now, on/off like for a month every year or two and I keep coming back and leaving just disappointed. I keep hoping it will get better but it never does. I can't even get into classic for the same exact reason. I wish they did new stuff for Classic, start it over basically imho.

No fresh audience that isn't under 30. Fresh classic anniversary servers die down and there are multiple answers in the MMO space like Ashes of Creation, Thrones of Liberty, FFXIV, etc. for various things WoW Classic either doesn't do or does well. The irritating thing I always find with the WoW community is that people seem to live in nostalgia. They aren't forced to contend with the fact that MMOs in general aren't doing well right now despite there being so many alternatives. It's because there are so many new alternatives that sprout up that people migrate to and play for a while before moving to another MMO and repeating the same process. WoW cannot be the main game anymore for a lot of people who left after Shadowlands flopped, and there isn't an influx of younger players (the LoL or Fortnite audience) who want to play classic en masse, much less retail or any other version. We don't live in the past: back when wotlk or legion announced, back when games like Wildstar died because they couldn't outcompete retail WoW.

What Blizzard has learned is that its community wants completely different things and everytime they launch a specific version of WoW, another part of that community vehemently hates it and calls it DoA. Tell me, from a business perspective, is it better to create something new for a jaded, boomer audience that seemingly min-maxes and gets rapidly bored of content every single time or does it make more financial sense to keep reshuffling various versions of WoW to keep hamsters entertained on the treadmill?

Because that's what WoW, in general is. It's a streaming service that shuffles players from retail to classic to seasonal to classic back to retail again. You can see it in their roadmap and people pay them sub money for it.

Dyl_762: To be fair, all I want is 1 PvP "trilogy" realm that goes from Vanilla into TBC and end with WotLK. After Wrath, the realm resets and starts over with a fresh Vanilla again..... and it does this over and over and over again forever. Once Blizz makes this, idc what else they do. That's just me personally. Also, I wouldn't mind Blizz making a few changes to WotLK to make it more in line with Vanilla & TBC. I think that'd be super cool, but that would just be the cherry on top.

One day you'll also figure out what "classic" actually mean for a juggernaut of an IP that is WoW (spoiler - it's not what the dudes with a "private server mentality" think it is) .

A LOT of people truly do enjoy retail more than classic. as for the culture, most players were teens and young adults back in vanilla wow. they had more time to spend playing games. most people playing classic wow now are probably 30 . gone is that free time so the min/max culture begins. if you never cleared raids back in '04 then you wanna do it now
