The 10 Most DISASTROUS Patches In WoWs History World of Warcraft

Miller1107: Haven’t watched the video yet but fully expecting the Warlords of Draenor launch patch to be there with everyone getting stuck at the Garrison on the flight path mount.

Edit: Knew it

ericstockley: The 20th anniversary had a portal that, instead of taking alliance players back to Stormwind it would drop players in fatigue water.

Terrados1337: Korthia was just bizarre. There is no city, not even buildings, its just a slightly brownish maw. And the "secret" to it was grinding.

white4423: I remember one specific thing being bad about MoP launch, but only if you were alliance. One of the quests involved flying a helicopter over a ship loaded with explosives, and you had to shoot said explosives to blow the ship up. Only problem is everyone else was doing the exact same thing, and there was a respawn timer on it too. There ended up being a giant figure 8 just hovering over that ship for hours.

MoonTurky: Best patch was the one where the orc shoulders where bugged i think 2.1 or something, maybe 2.2

Orc shoulders where like 3x smaller for no reason the entire patch

Arivia1: I remember a Wrath patch that needed hard resets of the servers to fix the problems. But it wasn't a big patch, just weekly maintenance. The problem was Wintergrasp - whenever the Battle for Wintergrasp started, it restarted the Northrend world server (so the entire outside of the continent of Northrend.) Unfortunately, the Northrend world server was set up so it would start a Battle for Wintergrasp 30 minutes or so after it turned back on, so every 30 minutes Northrend went down like clockwork until Blizzard finally fixed things. I remember it fondly just for being a bug you could literally set your watch to, just funny.

nathanwinters2400: Legit never saw all of Shadowlands launch content (or any after) bc I read the quest text in Bastion and it broke me. I up to that point hated a.) the story and what they were doing to Anduin (and what they had been doing to Sylvanas), b.) had a ton of hang-ups being in the literal afterlife where you're being told that there is a "Purpose" while souls are forced into one of four paths despite there being "infinite" options, and c.) was over it from the moment you were, yet again; the chosen one being able to teleport.

The quest text broke me. Why? There's a quest in Bastion where the NPC tells you to go kill some creatures bc they have bred out of control for the lack of anima to be split. Think about that line. They are overpopulating

neugassh3570: i wouldn't call the 2.2 patch disastrous it was just a non factor

MSinistrari: My experience with Voice Chat ended up causing not only guild drama but workplace drama. At the time I was in a guild with a bunch of coworkers, and one of them always played his hunter by shooting the mob, having his pet pull near everything in the room, and immediately feigning death, leaving us to deal with the mess. It was so bad we'd refer to him as 'bang-roar'. Attempts to help him learn his class fell on deaf ears. We all used ventrilo except him for some reason and he wanted to use the in game voice chat. We tried it and it wasn't working for us so we went with our usual everyone in vent with someone designated to type to him in guild chat. Not sure what happened but as we were griping about him in vent, someone might've still had the voice chat on with the ventrilo also on and he could hear what we were saying. There was bickering in chat until he logged and the next day at work, he wouldn't let up how mean we were despite all the times we tried to help him and him just ignoring us to the point we all ended up in front of our supervisor who pretty much told him to learn to play his class as our supervisor also played and knew what he was like.

IvyTinwe: "Never play on Patch Day" is something we commonly said during Vanilla times. I remember some disastrous patches or maintenance where you'd get free play days because you couldn't play.

rogerwilco2: I am still salty about the Opening of the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj on the Auchindoun-EU server.

This was a server started in the lead up to the release of TBC (hence the name), around patch 1.10, so people could level to 60 before the release of TBC.

But it being a fresh server, we got the war effort. So the whole server participated to get the gate opening event.

And then Blizzard released server transfer and someone with the sceptre transferred in and sniped the event in the middle of the night. By the time most players woke up, the event was over.

Blizzard should not have allowed character transfer before the opening of the gates, or not allowed people to transfer with the sceptre.

Flinwe95: At WoD launch, I hit max level on my druid, went to Ashran, hit a tank dummy and got booted out of the game. I couldn't play my character for the next 7 days and blizzard support told me to wait the next maintenance... Not even stuck in the garrison. Fortunately, I was able to play other characters and even see my main stuck on the dummy

barrelz8646: 9.1 is way more disasterous than almost any patch in this list, it's the patch that made insane amounts of players quit to ff14, that patch almost killed wow

ChessJew: The Voice Chat patch. I remember trying to use it in heroic Underbog. We tried for two minutes, went back to Vent, and never used it again.

Clips989: the in game voice chat works fine now. we did sunwell during a discord outage with no issue. still went back to discord as soon as the outage ended

StormsparkPegasus: 11.0. Not because of content, but because of technical issues. One of the buggiest patches the game has ever had. It was several months from being ready. And due to untested code being pushed live, it came with a bug that wiped out most people's guild banks and made them unrecoverable.

War Within is great overall, but OH BOY it was released in beta.

thomassleziak1222: After 15 years, my heart is still broken, I remember playing balance druid on tbc on one of the earlier patches, running away and spamming moonfire and killing everyone :D you didn’t have to face your targets to cast some instant spells :D

tonic9539: Got booted from my mythic team in bfa because in 3 weeks i still didn't have any corruptions pieces. then when that added the ability to buy them i got the BIS (gushing wounds) for all slots only for them to nerf it the next damn day. meaning i now had full worthless corrupted gear and none of the currency to buy the new BIS ones (haste and mastery buffs because my spec didn't get any of the cool ones outside of the wounds one). needless to say after farming Visions till i could replace then was so late in the patch that the mythic team had cleared and stopped clearing mythic n'zoth so didnt get the mythic kill in content.

g_m4k: When you brought up single digit FPS in TBC at the portal, all I could think of was the Single digit FPS I would get in Dalaran during WoTLK. A) My computer wasn't the best at the time being only 17 at the time and no job and B) There were a lot of people of people always there. I'd be lucky if I ever saw 10 FPS most of the time.

carlosnavarrete1094: Nightmare Incursions were legit the single worst experience I've had in WoW. Man phase 1 started SO PROMISING. What were they thinking? Even phase 2 was already a huge let down.

fauxtool952: there were no DDoS attacks for WoD. Players trying to play were the DDoS

vinnythewebsurfer: The only redeeming thing about any of these disaster patches is simply that none of them were ever actually bad enough to “kill” WoW.

Not WoD being literally unplayable or having no content when it did work. Not BFA or shadowlands which destroyed the lore and actively tortured grinders. No matter how much abuse the game threw at blizzard players, they never gave up on their abusive spouse of a game.

davidsawyers009: No WotLK patches on this list. The GOAT remains too stronk

sapandcap8031: Honorable mention to any patch that had mass NPC spam over the entire city/continent every time someone picked up an orange rock or whatever. Algalon and dracthyr legendary

dh8657: I had to have a warlock buddy summon me to the garrison when the portal broke haha
