Sammysapphira: Leagues are meant to be experiments. The way that the modern PoE community poops their pants over an.... experimental league, has honestly started to become quite sad.
ironymaiden1089: "It's so over" --> <--"we're so back"
veritaseru: Being able to hyper focus on 1 league mechanic is going to be insane, idk how people aren't seeing this lol
stormblind1654: Geeze, so many people upset about a 1 month event getting an end game overhaul.
Its an experimental event, that's gunna last 1 month (maybe more depending, we'll see), and gives a completely different end game experiment to engage with. Its fine. Would I want it as my end game system? Probably not tbh, but it may end up a solid thing to mix up every now and again.
I think its mostly how many people think of this as a league instead of the event it is.
XxZarionxX: While I agree that it would have been a lot cooler to have the idols as an add-on to the passive tree instead of a replacement, I assume it would have been way more effort to come up with modifiers that are both interesting enough to care and not utterly game breaking. Some OP stuff is fine, but thinking of all the possible interactions with Atlas passive nodes and new stuff would probably be a nightmare.
All in all, I'm happy about the statement and the speed at which it came. I also think that 19 Ascendancies alone will be more than enough content to keep me engaged for a month for me.
LazyPandaBum: We now return to the "WE'RE SO BACK" phase.
Jokes aside, I appreciate GGG for acting on the feedback (whining and crying) and adding map sustain and a bit of QoL in the form of idol loadouts. Still going to be cautious that the good mods will be super rare, or that identifying them will get tiring after a while, but I'm more open to trying out the new system now.
broomguy7: The constant extreme fucking negativity is tiresome. It really shows off the best of PoE players, just in time for the influx of players from PoE2.
TQDigitalMod: Man that Surfcaster tree looks great... I think I have decided my ascendancy
Stormy Seas, Glacial Wave, Ghost of the Deep... and I guess Sea Legs for a generic light to cold conversion tree, now to decide what skill and start building.
aodhanmorrissey: Man, I get that for a lot of people GGG are low on goodwill right now, but as far as a one month event goes, I like how theyre approaching it. Give us the experiemental shit. Itll be sometimes bonkers and sometimes mediocre. Thats the nature of experiementation. Its unrealistic to expect these to be 100% great ideas, if they were they would likely be core already!
circaen: I really dig the idol idea. Especially allowing people to use the system in private leagues. Too much of the POE 1 community grew up without fathers. They want to cry every time they need to adjust their strategy.
It sounds like you are going to be able to do things you can't do with the Atlas tree which makes it exciting. Looking forward to it.
1darkholme: Just as expected, GGG made a response and now the comments are all of a sudden the exact opposite to the previous video/statement. Most people belive that it's gonna be all right. And of course how can we live without some insulting. Calling people "Crybabies" etc.
The community's response to the idlos system was definitely overly negative and emotional, but the thing is - that does tend to happen when people get repeatedly lied to and their patience runs out.
"Poe1 and Poe2 will be one game". Turns out no, it won't.
"But don't worry, development of Poe2 will not affect Poe1, so no big deal. - So, Settlers league gets extented for another 3 months because we need people for Poe2."
"Development of Poe2 will not affect Poe1 - Oh, after 7 months with no updates for Poe1 we have to confess to you, that there won't be any updates for Poe1 in the foreseeable future because we need people for Poe2. We can't even give you a date. Oh, and by the way, we knew it would go that way for a few months already, we just decided to not tell you tee-hee."
"Poe2 will have a slower paced, more methodical combat - Herald of ice goes brrrrrt, expoding 3 screens of mobs" And don't even start with the "It's EA" bullshit, it's been like that for quite a while now, they just can't afford to upset the already dwindling playerbase with nerfs.
These are just a few examples, there are more. After all that i think it's only natural that people expect things to go wrong and react accordingly. The idols reaction seems too dramatic in a vacuum, but makes a lot of sense with all the context. As some people mention in the comments - right now is not a good time for GGG to experiment, especially with one of the most beloved mechanics of the game and in such a drastic way, something safer would be a better call probably.
And on the "news" themselves - i don't know why people don't see it, but the generous drop rates for idols wouldn't change much in the big picture. Think about how many mods there are, and how many idols you would have to get to just focus on one mechanic. And what if you want all your idols to have 2? Still faaar away from the convenience of just allocating a passive point.
I'm sure the top end of "atlas juicing" will be a lot of fun with all the stacking, but the amount of time you would have to spend on the low end first is gonna be painful.
And lastly, the "it's not related to Poe2". This is somewhat biased, but i just straight up don't belive them. Watch them put it in Poe2 saying something like: "We originally didn't intend to use it for Poe2, but after the Poe1 event we thought wow, it would work so well in Poe2 and decided to add it!"
Philip_was_here: Was hoping they would just re-play one of our favorite POE 1 leagues with a slight twist.. (they know which ones were popular and what could have been better about them.) This relic / idol thing sounds like hot-garbage. The whole reason I still want to play POE 1 is the Endgame and the access to the plethora of league mechanics that the Atlas Passive tree offers. Why not just add it onto the existing Atlas Passive tree as a bonus like they did with Jewel sockets? Why d*** around with such a core part of POE 1?
owlmostdead9492: For anyone being confused, this garbage system was proven to be garbage ~10 years ago. This was a thing before the atlas in POE1, IMO if they didn’t introduce the atlas and kept this system instead .. POE1 would have died back then.
LukeK9: Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory once again with this hot garbage. The beauty of POE1 is that we can play the game in which every way we want. I personally enjoy at most 2 of their end game systems, that is genuinely the aspect I miss most while playing poe2. Really sad that a company that was so good for so long is turning into late stage Blizzard, ignoring feedback and telling players "what they want" when this has been pretty universally not well received so they double down on it.....
acemanner: I feel like I'm the only one that thinks fucking with the Atlas is super cool.
colto2312: doing a 'random' league right now is literally the worst possible decision they possibly could have made
dogebestest7187: I mean i guess it's good that they aim at retaining the atlas tree power level, still i suspect the league would simply be more fun if it wasn't included.
Very glad it's not a poe2 experiment either, I just dont feel like an experiment needs to be conducted there. There already was an extensive test regarding what people like in their end game. It was rather convincingly settled people like convenience, choice and autonomy across many iterations of poe1 endgame. I would just like them to apply those concepts to poe2 then.
I'm still big sold on the wacky ascendencies tho
Seananigans13: I'm excited for it. I think it's gonna be a blast and a lot of new stuff to discover and try.
BellatorumBooks: What would be interesting for the idol system is for the unique idols to do something like: "Legion Modifiers on Idols are disabled, X% increased effect of idols with legion modifiers." Or something like that
adrianx8243: To GGG: STILL GARBAGE GUYS and we don't believe anymore when you say "[this] won't replace [this]"
Kukri63: playing dark huntung ground since your vid, thank you some much for such a gem
xedden2: When the fishing based class showed up I literally thought "Is this real?...crap, pun not intended"
voodoo1069: Kind of hoping a big private league without the idol system pops off because it still sounds very unfun compared to the normal tree.
ShinsTheMan: the thing about this idols is the Respec aspect... you need to farm for like 2 3 days to start a decent essence strat but then u want to change to harbys for exemple and then you need to farm for 3 4 days for those relics ... even so if u can farm them it will be more and more stash space occupied by dumb stuff
Robbie1okay: I find that comment of "old throw away idea we didn't think was good enough to replace the atlas tree" really weird.
It uses the base of sanctum's garbage relic system, that being rng tedium to fix the mediocre system of sanctum. Sanctum coming out after we had the initial version of the current atlas that they had gone on record saying was essentially the pinnacle of what they wanted and most likely wouldn't be heavily changed system wise going forward. Why would they even think to apply the garbo rng tedium system of relics to the endgame as a replacement for the atlas? As in why would that thought even come up as an idea to throw around when at it's core it's an unfun system , relying on rng or trading via other player's rng to make endgame actually fun or worth running. Not to mention the horrible relic slotting in bs that also just isn't fun to engage with. Hell I'd argue sanctum as a whole isn't liked by most players, if it didn't literally shit bricks of money out no one would have given it the light of day; it's just a super gimmicky mechanic that wouldn't be worth doing at all if it didn't spew currency yet despite that they added it to the core of poe, then I guess tossed around the idea of making that shite relic system a replacement for the atlas passive tree, then moved to use the same shitty system in poe2 as a lab replacement. Like holy hell who in the office has a hard on for that shoddy gimmick system that they keep using it despite it being more of a tedium system than a fun system with how the whole relic system works.
As far as the event goes the super weird alternate ascendancies have me interested in messing around but not having set progression in the endgame via the atlas and instead having to deal with the tedium of getting relics and slotting them in to make mapping not worthless and wasting slots on disabling mechanics you don't like is such a huge turn off. Not to mention settlers still being a core thing when all we need is gold drops and the currency exchange from it.
I'd rather they just do silly fun events until they decide poe1 is worth their time again than this type of stuff tbh. That and not letting Jonathan have any hand in ideas around poe1, dude went on record that he hated poe1 so why he mentioned having ideas for the next league in that previous delay announcement isn't confidence inspiring to say the least.
ArticulateArena: Whats worse?
1. Being a poe 2 testing ground
2. Being a scrap yard for all the failed ideas for poe 2
Poe 1 should not be affected by poe 2 trash un any way
