steefhermans8855: GW2 is like a Ferrari in a parking lot
- It has the best combat
- It has one of the best communities
- It has the best QoL features
- It has the most amazing mount system
- Its stylized graphics will ensure its never really gets outdated and they are improving on visual fidelity even now
- Theres a ton of stuff to do (for new players)
- It has a ton of varied content so you aren't just stuck doing M / Raiding and dailies
- It has a ton of horizontal progression rather than chasing ilvl increases that get wiped away every 3 months by patch cycles
- It has a ton of visually pleasing and eye cancer inducing cosmetics so everyone can look the way they want. From classy pirate or knight to lovecraftian irradiated cat vomit.
- Every class can perform every role (tank/heal - supportdps - dps) and generally can do it "as good" as any other class if you only look at the minimum requirements
Where it suffers though is the following:
- ANET constantly abandons every new game mode and when they pick up the game mode again to make content for it they fumble so hard players actively refuse to participate in the new content for that game mode (Lonely tower fractal / kanaxai fractal) until it gets nerfed/fixed weeks or even months later and even then its just not fun.
- ANET creates a game mode that less than 1% of the playerbase engages in and then fails to create a kiddy pool mode for the story enjoyers, creating a rift in the playerbase between people who find others toxic for expecting people to press more than one button and the players who want to just have fun/experience the game mode at their own pace.
- ANETs content cadence is so slow it doesnt even satisfy the shareholders. Releasing 1 hour of content three times a year following a slightly larger "expansion" that has content for two weeks only because one week is padded by repeatable achievements that require 14 days played. Padding the rest of the year with the same old festival events.
- ANET fails to do balance patches often enough to adress glaring issues such as vastly overperforming classes (virtuoso) / guardian (firebrand) / chronomancer tanks (SoI during HoT) or seems to toss dart arrows at a bingo board of dumb decisions (ally targeting for specter) or just shits out an elite spec and then lets it rot (bladesworn) with built in bugs and issues that still haven't been adressed years after
- ANET fails to create enough content for veteran players who breeze through every content patch like a cloud of starved locusts because they haven't had anything else to do in game for three months and three weeks following the last content update.
- ANET fails to create enough content for new/casual players
- ANET fails to adress the rampant win trading and toxic behaviour in its structured pvp mode, with large amounts of the leaderboard contenders not earning their place through genuine play.
So now a new player has nearly 15 years of content to play and enjoy and its genuinly a great game
But anyone who has played for more than 5 years has fuck all to do, no goals left in the game and receives content like a drug addict in a clinic.
Piecemeal, in a little white cup.
ANET could have the best mmorpg.
Instead its lathering seasonal paint jobs over a Ferrari thats rusting and leaking and growing algea in the window rubbers.
What I wouldn't give to see the game on the road instead of being wasted.
But no. Have another sandwich store commercial or an idiotic taxi commercial that doesn't vibe with anyone.
Come get your new content update on March 11 children. I'm sure we'll have content for at least an hour.
rohrbrot4563: I once suggested a duty finder in the GW2 subreddit and was downvoted to hell because GW2 supposedly has no fixed roles, which is absolute nonsense.
jamenba1: changes to the game that exposes the community that got cultivated for years on this game to be trash at it will never come to the game, this game has the highest ratio of players that are bad and think they are good at the game i ever seen, if something require more 0.5% effort or takes 1-2 more mins its deemed bad and trash by the majority, the reward system is made to always pusnish the ppl that care and put effort and rewards ppl that just exist and press 1
AzureRoxe: The reason why you don't understand why people happily wait is because you're not a drone.
And the community is pretty well known to be a bunch of drones that borderline worship ANet, so they happily sit there getting screwed over, being told to wait months for very little content and they're happy with it. Plus the MANY times that the community has gone against QoL ideas
nd6886: Problem is the employees who made these features no longer work there so the current employees only change what they understand i.e. the LFG system with only adding tabs instead of grouping them.
peterbruhn5279: I might have misunderstood your point, but isn't there already a toggle/show/hide checkbox for the Achievements? I've ticked off completed achieves, so it only shows none completed. Very cool video none the less! You have some good points.
X1OProductions: Unique class buffs required specific comps though. Having those get removed in favor of generic boons allowed more classes to be viable for the meta.
nairobie755: The lfg is fine, the only people who have a problem with it is the same people who can't work out ikea manuals. Dungeon finders with teleports are absolute ass and antithetical to any social aspects of gaming. It ruined wow, stop wishing it to ruin another game.
guys-b3in-dudes: I always think it's fun to talk about what could be done to "fix" a lot of issues the game has.
I'm also glad you acknowledge that they 99.99% won't be implemented due to "reasons."
I personally think a lot of friction with the game comes from just spending so much time in it. This game is a great hyper-fixation for a good year, but it doesn't stay for very long for most players. You stick around cause you think its fun despite it all, or you've got friends/a community that keeps you coming back. I show up and run some raid clears for my guild, but I hardly touch the game some days now.
I still think its fun, but I really want ANet to stop resting on the laurels of the community and actually put some effort and resources into the game again.
FortunaeMaxima: In wvw would be cool a sort of bounty hunter missions where you can go and do specific things for more money and points: especially for killing roamers that are currently making the most solo kills and go find them. I would also add a solo kill (not kills from heals, just solo kills) feed system to reward players who are in killing spree to at least let know all the server about it and “brag” :) with momentary icons and buffs.
odin13th76: For the LFG, i personally feel the way it's set up now is great for posting your group, but for finding one is horrible and i feel to fix that they need to give us drop down menus and filters so you can see every group posted that you wish to see for the content you wish to see. Same with if they can do API for what you have unlocked. Like in eso if i don't own whatever expansion or have eso then only the dungeons i own show up in my list.
As for roles and que system. Until anet comes out with official roles no que system will ever be made with them in mind, and it's something ppl need to start understanding, cuz 99% of the fixes proposed for lfg/que always has to do with roles. Community driven/accepted roles are not actual roles within the game mechanics. Queue system at it's core would have to be like the pvp one, just matches 5 ppl up or 10 ppl up for strikes/raids/etc. which for most part would work out fine. Also if they ever did a queue system then they need to block ppl from progressing when they havent done the content yet. Like an account with say 0 level fractal but 200 AR shouldnt be allowed to do t4 fractals (unless maybe a vote by the party) But for raid/strike think it would be easier since you can just put a liimit of they need 2-5 clears b4 the next one unlocks depending on their difficutly of course. Like Shiverpeak pass and the 2 polar bears strikes would only need 1 clear each to unlock the next lol.
GetThePizza: I think a big issue with dailies is that a lot of them that help in populating maps are in the achievements tab while other dailies are in the wizard's vault. Putting ALL dailies in the wizard's vault, preferably with some UI design to separate them in a clear and proper way, would help a lot to make players much more aware of what is going on on the day to day. Going all the way into the achievements tab to get into the dailies feels really outdated and weird now that we have a wizard's fault tab.
teknomancer6330: The dungeons have always been a problem. They generally have interesting story points, but the way they're presented makes them very much optional and requiring that bit of story to be multi-player more or less seals the deal. I'd bet most players just DEL those random-NPC emails anyway when they show up.
Dungeons should either be re-tuned into single player story content and inserted into the regular mission log where indicated, OR they should just be shifted away from being standalone content and folded directly into (and re-tuned for) Fractals instead. I don't think there's any saving them otherwise. I'd prefer the first, but of course neither is likely. 0 is easier than 1, so entropy always wins in the end.
ediGoesPRO: I would sign for the boon restrictions
johnsylux7241: It's so funny, I just returned after like a 6 year break and the game does feel smaller than ever because in the 6 months I've been back I keep running into the same people. I've been wondering why that is, because the game is still just REALLY FUN to just roam around and play! I spend hours each session just running around collecting resources and enjoying how pretty the game still is, the rest is spent trying to figure out how to make the best support build I can that I can still play and be effective with... for metas that already have people for those roles
COOLNESSS87: u should know by now those most likely wont happen Anet barely listens to feedback due to lack of budget/people so there is that
incosto6036: I wonder how can be fixed the problem with underperforming specializations? It feels like anet will drop a set of new specs in one of the expancions and will make even more older specs irrelevant. There is about a same situation with new weapons for each class in every expancion. Warriors are running out of options only 4 weapon options are not usable now.
eves9599: I've been playing the game off and on since release and I can agree with a few of the problems you listed though not always entirely how you suggest fixing them.
GvG, PvP, and WvW - I desperately want some new life to be given to PvP and WvW though having things like set abilities would contradict what made GvG so addicting in the first game. (At least iirc), GW1 quite literally had thousands of skills mixed between game modes and class specific skills that made it so expressive and gave an incredible amount of customization to every game type it had within it. And balance wise, I've always felt that there should be a gap between balance in PvP and WvW, even if mismanaged, since skills in sPvP aren't as prevalent as they are in WvW and vice versa.
LFG - I can't help but worry about a system like the one you detailed. On one hand I'd love for more people to be able to find groups to play dungeons and other smaller content that has been forgotten about. However I think a queue system would be more difficult to implement or would just end up being a slightly more complicated version of things that already exist. Builds are so varied and can be performed by so many different classes that differentiating between builds someone might be playing seems like a steep ask for an inbuilt system. Even with a report system since if it's automatic it could create a problem of people reporting people just not quite performing their builds well. Additionally, many commanders already ask for very specific builds like Heal Alac Mech tanks or something along those lines, so having a broad "Healer" queue slot might just lead to a healer joining and getting interrogated about the spec they are running. I'd like there to be a revamp to LFG, but do you think that we may encounter those problems?
Content cadence - I feel that some of the problems come with the fact that GW2 is a horizontal progression game. Where as in FFXIV, where getting gear from running dungeons ends up becoming part of your time for completing the content in an expansion. I feel that if we got full expansions like we had back when POF and HOT were getting released, players, especially veteran players, would still be able to clear all that content in a month or so like happens in FFXIV, and then be left waiting for 2 years for the next major content drop.(Even faster if things like raids are turned into daily resets since it could drastically effect prices of raid based gear) Though I do think possibly experimenting with a 6 month cadence of larger updates for the expansions that we have now may be worth doing so that the drops can at least feel a bit more impactful in terms of things to do as opposed to what we got with Janthir Godspawn.
Boons and hud - Hud I feel could definitely use some customization. Clarity of debuffs could also use some working though it would need to be somewhat intricate since it may become slightly visually cluttering with how many buffs and debuffs there are in the game. I don't personally think that boons are all that bad, though I do think that we are in a better place without the class specific buffs since that allowed for so many classes to become viable in all game types. If all of those buffs were to return, we'd start leaning away from the flexibility that we have now and I worry that the try hard veteran squads will start asking for even more specific things and the game will start to incentivize player swapping off the class they like to play in favor of the class that gives the class specific boon.
Overall I'm happy to see discussion about the game in any capacity! I want nothing more than for this game to become the best thing that it can be, though I do worry that fixes to the game are much more nuanced than many players realize. I'd love to hear what you think!
imjustkentaro: A lot of good points about content but i think the part about boons and ui clarity is the biggest sticking point for me especially in pvp where it's so important to see what boons an enemy has while making split second decisions.
eduardogomes7037: I'm with you for the achievments tabs quality of life. And would like to add a button to collect all loot boxes at once, specially on the rush events, it gets crazy how many you have to click open.
SabsUploads: Sorry I’m late, I needed a snack.
nosc_c: I wouldn't want the queue system implemented in PvE, unless it would take into account some factors like KP and if those players are in my block list.
Other than that, great video.
hristo.bogdanov: The new player on-boarding in this game is ass... Also all the garbage "mechanics" in the story missions are crap and they should go. These are usually used only once and with not a single idea for a new player should be doing. These are EJECTING players from the game!!!
traveling.down.the.road56: I appreciate the effort and sentiment put into making this video, but if this is the only type of content that you are going to make from now on about GW2, then I’ll be dropping my subscription from your channel. I agree with most of what you said, but like you say, nothing is going to change. If instead you want to make content about how we as the community can do something that might have a chance to make a difference in how the game is developed, then I would stick around for that.
malice_wonderland: GW2Efficiency got devs off the hook for the detailed management pages (ie, the achievement tracker). Thanks for the content!
ranchdressin-d3b: I recently got into this game back in december, and played everyday for nearly 2 months straight which i cant remember the last time a game got my that engaged. I recognize gw2 is different, for good and bad reasons. They also have less budget, but they release quality content IMO. My biggest issue, and the single reason that i do not play much anymore is just how terribly the game performs. It visually is worse than ff14 and wow, has for the most part less going on the screen. Yet it runs so poorly. I think theres some other small gripes here and there, such as alot of class weapon variety yet imo 90 percent of them feel terrible to play. If they fixed the performance, which i doubt they ever will, i could see myself making this my next main game. But i just cant get over that performance.
