typhir5911: There are things that both games can learn from each other. FF14 has a much better and stronger raiding and dungeon experiences than GW2 does. FF14 also has a masterfully told story up through Endwalker, while Dawntrail was a bit of a letdown, I feel like nobody in the gaming industry has done a post major world ending crisis story right.
Guild Wars 2's open world is always active. There are always events that people actually stay around to do. FF14's open world always feels so very dull to me unless I'm gathering materials for my crafting professions. Barely anyone stays around to do FATES after launch on the latest maps unless they need that particular event for a relic weapon (like ARR's very painful relic grind). GW2 is also horizontal progression instead of vertical like FF14's is. You cap out on gear at Ascended. Everything else is up to your player skill level instead of your item level. However, that said, I find the combat in GW2 very messy when in large 50 man group instanced content like Convergences. It is nowhere near as structured as FF14's is, but that in and of itself has its own charms too.
Both games are great. I sub to FF14 on and off because its story keeps pulling me back. GW2; however, is my main MMO since its launch. Totally agree that both games shine in their own ways.
Back2Bay6: I started GW2. Picked up XIV around ARR launch. Quit XIV at Dawntrail, but I’m sure they’ll do something that brings me back. GW2 has always been my steady. Can just jump back in any time with no need to catch up to anything. Just play at my own pace. It’s refreshing as a palette cleanser next to XIVs constant treadmill grind.
traveling.down.the.road56: Anyone who isn't at least trying out GW2 to see if they will like it, is missing out.
boxonothing4087: I will never agree with the praise showered over FF14's supposed storytelling prowess.
It is highly sentimental rather than appealing to emotions, and contains the same overused story elements that frequently make anime utterly cringe.
For a teen or young adult, sure, it's pushes all the buttons.
But as you grow older and gain more experience with actual emotionally hard hitting events, it starts feeling like the disgusting schmaltz fest you find in soap operas and Hallmark Christmas specials.
Good narrative structure, but oh boy, feels like what a 14 year old believes to be dramatic.
Drama is good when done in proper doses, add to much and you get melodrama. And that NOT good, it can spoil the best story.
vincentbeton: GW2 will likely always have one huge advantage that makes it a must try for anyone eventually - it is f2p. While it heavily incentivizes you to buy at least some Expansions, those are often on massive sales, easily beating what yo would get from a month or two of a subscription somewhere else
wiblet: I have spent maybe 300-400 euros on gw2 across 10 years of playing and 4000 hours of game time. The rest of the spending I've done by converting gold to gems, which is another whole "minigame" to minmax lol. It has respected my money and time because none of it feels wasted. So I respect the game and devs too. All my effort stays relevant, no matter how long the game lives on for. There's no grinding, you just play for fun past a certain point that arrives pretty quickly.
quantifiedmemalytics: I switched to BDO. I also tried GW2 but it just wasn't my cup of tea, it felt dated.
jrovel07: Once reaching level 80 and starting to experience expansions, one of your most visited places will be "achievements" on the left side of your "hero" panel. In there you will find multiple achivements that lead to ascended gear or home instance nodes to farm, more achievement points that can lead you to free gems to spend in the gem store or gold. Sometimes you finish an achievement, and an achievement you didn't know about that was "hidden" unlocks. GW2 doesn't put u on a gear, grind, it puts you on an "achievement" grind. There are literally thousands of them with very few to a fantastic reward to do. Finish these achievements for legendary gear, finish these achievements for ascended gear, do these achievements and reach higher achievement points to get gold and gems.... You can literally become obsesed with finishing a particulllary difficult achievement. They keep their economy on a tight leash so even max level crafting needs lower level items to complete. Even level 1-10 zone items are often sought after by end game community so if u are a new player, check out the trader and you can learn how to NOT be short on gold to convert to gems
gilsonsilva5811: Both are amazing for sure. Playing gw2 for three years now (almost got a burnout, to be sincere) and decided to try FF14. Just testing, but for sure both have a lot of pros and cons. Personally, I would love to have that UI customization and gear aesthetic from ff14 on gw2. On the other side, I would like to have feeling of exploration and pvp (mostly, wolrd vs world, when we can enter on big zerg fights) from gw2 on ff14.
gerardponz3168: Nice video, thanks for the speech
dragonfangalexander: Guild Wars 2 is the perfect compliment to Final Fantasy XIV, its design wise the complete opposite, in fact it was thought as something diferent than WoW, so it follows the same is true when compared to XIV.
From the narrative to the progression.
MTube80: For me its Guild Wars 2 because of the world and the freedom in tyria :)
stormking6702: Trying to find an MMO to pass the time. Wanna give GW2 a shot, but finding a name for my character thet isn't taken is such a big hassle.
Charlie-lx9mg: To each is own
sirith9157: I won't talk about FFXIV because I didn't played it. Maybe it's esthetic or thousand buttons. I don't know.
But what I can say about GW2 is: "Don't sleep on it".
Firstly. There's a ton of content to expirince and enjoy. As you said, there are people everywhere in this game. You're never alone and system of achievements always keep people to reach something even after they finished a area. Maybe it's for a drop, a weapon, skin or whatever else. People are constantly roaming these maps for something.
Build verity is just beautiful here. Swapping skills between fights is so easy and comfortable it's chef's kiss. You can easily capitalize on certain skills with great effect if you already now certain encounters. One skill maybe won't the best on fractals, but on Open World? People who are grinding Verdant Brink map will know what I'm talking about. Running in full DPS gear isn't the best idea with swarms on swarms of enemies at night.
And lastly. Accessibility.
My god. Systems aren't complicated mess, most things are easily explained or you can figure it out on your own. There's entire wiki (which work with chat!) where thing are carefully explained. Often using interactive map to help navigating a lot of things.
And finally there's community. It's understandable when you go into hard endgame without preparation. That's expected anywhere.
But 99% of the people here are chill. Like really chill. Community likes to both goof around and grind like maniacs. I had moments like randomly jumping around one major cities fir no reason, only for people to start jumping with me. Or I was waiting for my friend to finish some crafting. I used sleeping emote and went on a smoke. When I came back I had like 20 random people using their "sit" and "sleep" emotes around me like it was a sleepover.
Love you guys, you're awesome
Aminiryku: greetings from fellow ff14 cult member to other cult member, repeat your mantra, ff14 is the greatest in the world!
I_see_a_spider: Gw2 has hype?
Shinobia543: Won't touch GW2 until they start making all living stories for free. They are selling DLCs for DLCs. Thats not okay.
