WikiED: I hope it's a massive success for WoW so FF devs can push SE execs that's worth allocating more funds into developing.
XFry333X: XIV's age is showing so hard in 7.0 holy
Redcritxx: i hope its good both games needs the competition so players on both sides can have better games
Envinyon: Island Sanctuary already serves as a soft proof of concept for instanced player housing, so its definitely feasible.
Direct competition is good, all games only stand to improve by learning from each others deficiencies
25xxfrostxx: FF14: "We can't let every player have a house due to resource limitations."
WoW: "We solved the problem by buying a hard drive."
flamingosalad3541: I cant wait to bees knees in WoW venues.
GiantDwarf8118: GW2 has instanced palyer housing and its 10x better than 14. I can bet alot of money that WoW's hosuing will be better too.
Horstveratu: pfft SE moves so fkn slow. If they move at all, it's gonna be by 9.0 or something..
EmpyreanDreamer: The moment the word "rewards" popped up in an article about housing every players garrison PTSD kicked back in. It will be interesting to see how it pans out though because how they say neighbourhoods will work is pretty much what I've always thought SE should do. Dynamically instanced wards with the option for guild specific ones. It's definitely in everyones best interest that blizz succeeds on this one.
alittlebirdi: It would be nice if Square Enix gave 14 more funding than just enough to afford a new roll of duct tape every other year.\
Also choosing Durotar over Mulgore is a joke.
amerrill351: The devs will congratulate Blizzard on the success of their housing system and how innovative and awesome it is. Then do nothing to update there housing in FF14 lol.
highwhen: I just dabbed into ESO and my god FFXIV is so outdated compared to it’s competitors. The glamour system and housing system is so much better. SE really need to update these ancient relics of a system.
GothaBillsAndDeath: Speaking as someone who analyzed the feedback or rather backlash over more story-driven content in War Within by subsections of WoW that really didn't care about the story adaptions that Blizzard took from FFXIV, I say this with all due respect, but the wow community is a highly fractured, almost schizophrenic MMO community. Where the loudest opinion becomes the prevalent opinion. The real issue is that there are like 5 different WoWs at this point and each version of WoW has proponents that take up space with their own interpretation of what WoW is. I doubt the people who wanted WoW to be more like Classic will like or care about housing as that's not what they value in that MMO, whereas these alleged QoL are things desired in the FFXIV community.
ManxoChu: I have friends in FF14. I have a small house but I also have an apartment. I only do one mmo sub. No matter the carrots that get dangled, my trust in Blizzard hit the negatives long ago. Never gonna touch "World of Fruitbowls." Never gonna be a "Payer" there. Any game that's "mods required" is a solid pass.
Also don't forget their legal issues in the past.
KLGChaos: Gamut is indeed pronounced the way you said it.
jameysotelo540: Even if housing might end up like a garrison 2.0, i do kind of hope this is another game that rubs it into SE's face to actually go the stretch to make either instanced housing, or force them to get rid of the 15 houses under one single persons account so more people can actually potentially get a house. let alone the fact that wow's housing will not be demolished if you are taking a break from the game for however long and the fact that you can have a house right next to your friend and not across the entire district because of instanced housing
mosselyn5081: The thing I disagree with devs (of both games) about the social aspect of housing is the assumption that that means neighborhoods. Housing could still be social the way it is in 14, with clubs and so forth, just fine without neighborhoods as long as you can make your house accessible and browsable (for want of a better word). In the games I've played with neighborhoods, like 14 and lotro, the neighborhoods are deserted most of the time, IME. Like, we might hang out in our FC house yard, but we're not roaming around the ward, and neither is anyone else. Rift and Wildstar both managed to do instanced housing just fine without it being inherently antisocial.
REDtheBEAST: Thinking about ffxiv housing a good chunk of people who take up homes are just in it for airships/subs for gil farming(In FC wards and private/fc wards you can find many shell fc just for that) it was a mistake for SE to tie in workshops in housing.
algame3: Don't tell me the engine is old and they can't do it because WOW is older and they were able to do it
tameelah3839: Swtor has had housing for a long time, the beauty of it is you can allow visitors as you please and once you have purchased your house it is yours even if you swap to preferred or free to play. Cheapest house is 5k and go up from there. Any of your toons can use the housing and you just rock up to a housing board and pay for the place it is yours. It will never be demolished as long as you have an account. Decorations can be purchased in game from vendors, via operations (raids), flash points or part of the story and cash shop.
JudyIscariot: As someone that plays both games I'm super excited for housing coming to WoW. And knowing the lessons they've been learning I'm expecting it to be pretty great. Very stoked for guilds being able to have a neighborhood as well.
Also, with regard to the cash shop, it's worth noting that unlike in FF something being on the cash shop doesn't mean that you can't earn it in game. If you get the gold to buy a wow token you can convert it into bnet balance and then buy the item that way. So while technically yes it's a cash shop item it isn't out of reach entirely for people without extra money. Just vibe checking though and comparing how I've felt about the cash shop in both I've found FF's to be a little less player friendly. Take event items for instance. In WoW you just wait for the event to come around again and buy it from the vendor, whereas in FF they sell event items for 5 bucks each on the store.
charlesedwinbooks: Since housing first came out of in FFXIV I have always said this
There should be TWO housing options.
1. The standard normal housing were used too.
2. Individualized instanced housing. - given everything game does there isn't any reason why FCs couldnt have instanced housing as well.
This way everyone isn't missing out on content for literally no decent reason other than "because".
sawarunan: I get that people want instanced housing in XIV, but I wish the housing districts were somehow more integrated into hubs and just more lively generally. I love the look of most housing areas and it is fun that it genuinely comes across as 'residential' compared to the rest of the game, but it's just so deserted all the time.
DacianGradaMusic: As usual, the only way to push a "dominating" (debatable for XIV, I guess in some aspects yes but idk) title/company/product to improve and go over a complacent state of "good enough" is competition, improvements in key areas that make them better and actual monetary threat.
I really hope this goes well for WoW so SE can wake up.
algame3: 2 major things ff14 must fix: housing and glamour.
MurakamiTenshi: RIFT of all games had better player housing than FF14, and that came out almost 20 years ago. No housing deletion hanging over you like a noose, and everything was instanced.
DrummerLocnar: competition is good! nicely done, WoW, put the pressure on ffxiv to improve it's jank
