When Youve Been Pronouncing This FFXIV Name Wrong for YEARS

MMDTrxsh: Thanks, I'll continue to pronounce it Row-gadyn.

Incompetent_Hero: As a 16 year veteran of Mabinogi, we NEED pronunciations on things. Everything in that MMOs first 10 years is celtic, NONE of it is said how it looks. Glas ghaibhleann, cromm cruiach, tir chonaill, none of it made for my weak canadian mouth

QuangLe-qk3nv: " that's just Colin being British..."

CuoriRubati: I know I've heard "roo" long before that, but still. A shock when I did. It's the same pronunciation as with Merlwyb "Bloo"fiswyn and "Moon"bryda.

Emuney12: Everyone I know watching this cutscene: "Oh damn that Roegadyn is HOT!"

Meanwhile Jesse: "ROO-GUH-DIN?!!"

navelwarfare3247: I mean, every other oe is pronounced "oo" in ffxiv, so it makes sense.

Still don't like it, but it makes sense.

Suutashi: Didn't we learn the correct pronunciation way back in StormBlood? It was when we asked Hancock about the whereabouts of Gosetsu and Yuguri. It was also one of the first times we ever heard Au Ra spoken in a cutscene.

DuskEalain: My lil' character blurb on my Roe has been "Get Roe'd Like a Boat" for a few years now.

No Dawntrail cutscene is making me change it.

OkamiG15: my big pronunciation thing was the game went 4 levels and 2 zones before voicing “Xbr'aal” even once.

xxJing: Japanese is phonetic and it is Rugadin transliterating the name into English letters. The pronunciations rarely match up though, so I also assumed we were supposed to pronounce them Roh in English.

Honestly the English version of FF14 takes a huge poetic license. 9/10 times the Japanese dialogue is just straight up and simple and Koji ends up making it flowery and complex.

Squibscirus: The number of people that don't realize La Noscea is pronounced "La NO-sha" makes me realize how many people skip cutscenes.

acehealer4212: I read about it on the forum post about Roegadyn names. I can get behind the official pronunciation, but I stick to the “Roh” pronunciation for fandom stuff, like Roevember (November), Femroe, Broegadyn and such.

What I really need a pronunciation guide for, as someone who hasn't read a lick of French, are Elezen names!

JoriDiculous: wait? in what universe is Roe Rue? it doesn't make sense :D

fluffyfang4213: I like cutscenes to give me a baseline pronunciation, but copying the accent is bonus points. For example, do you emphasize that h sound in Tuliyollal?

guitalex2005: I saw a naked Roegadyn in Idyllshire.

ROO-ga-din

EE-dil-shir

RahmpageChicken: reminder that Colin pronounces Y'shtola "Yi'shtola" more often than "Ya'shtola", especially early on in the MSQs, where the latter is the correct Seeker of the Sun pronunciation.

AbbreviatedReviews: I spent like 23 years pronouncing FF7's Mako as "May-ko" until I heard it it spoken in the Remake. It's just part of the fun of not knowing anything.

jrsdef: 1000% just colin being British cause we hear Hancock say it as Row 3 expacks ago

vellusviridi: Why did you think Moenbryda is pronounced "Moon-bree-da"?
