frozenalpha6942: We already beat Exdeath back in the Omega series
Spookybluelights: I was totally cool not being the main character after two really heavy expansions. It was fun just being the secret weapon adventurer in a place where few know who I really am for once.
hoodiesticks: Those definitely aren't the only two options. You could also go the Superman route of "You're powerful, but other people aren't, and you can't save everyone or be everywhere. How do you create a world where people don't have to be powerful to be happy?". Stormblood leaned hard into this angle with the struggles of the rebels.
adancingpotato4327: Better to take a BIT of a step back. If they had kept it your story it would have been the Warcraft story issue of 'AND NOW AN EVEN EVILER GUY IS OUT THERE" which people would have hated so much more. DT was a good move to start the new 'story'.
WhyrenGP: my problem was not, that i'm not the main character.
my problem was that they kept advertising places to get food that refuse to sell you any, why do you mention a taco stand in a voiced cutscene but not make that npc a vendor that actually sells tacos? there were like 5 such cases during the dawntrail msq.
or10nsharkfin: That this was an expansion where we as the WOL take a step back from the world-saving and actually go on an adventure
saphirsnep: I think what helps with the "power creep thing" too is.
A lot of these world saving fights, the WoL is empowered with dynamis.
They are very strong yes, but without Dynamis, they wouldn't be able to win those big "fate of the world" fights. The bigger the stakes, the stronger the WoL because of Dynamis
Like the first trial. There's no way that thing is stronger than Zodiark or Endsinger. But it's not the literal end of the world, so the WoL isn't pushed past their limit
grass23: When some of the characters that we meet in dawntrail become fan favorites a couple expansions later people will soften on dawntrail a lot.
Endwalker and Shadowbringers were also just kinda like therapy and easy to connect to.
People expect that connection.
I liked Dawntrail but it does make sense. But we can't just keep doing Shadowbringers and Endwalker forever.
highfiveguy: i don't mind not being the center of the story. i mind having the focus of the story be on a really one-dimensional, uninteresting and completely unrelatable character.
AKImeru: The end of DT story is pretty much your story again since it is your character who is hanging on the Key to Open Other Worlds.
As promised, DT was a 'break' expansion where you were not the main character but it pretty much ends with you on the driving seat again after learning that shit's fucked on other reflections and now you are armed with a Reflection Visiting Machine.
People need to chill.
HonestPhil: nope, thats the exact worry i have. this being the take away that we dont like not being the center of attention. its the immature writing, predictable story outcomes, last minute villian introduction and wuk being WAY too much of a focus. i could rant on more but like... i dont wanna write an essay
Valla0: the problem wasn't with us not being the focus, its more so that wuk lamat was such a poorly written character and always literally shoved down your throat, first half it makes sense but the 2nd half of the expansion should have focused on other characters put instead its just more of wuklamats bullshit
IceTax69: I dont mind Wuk Lamat being the main character in Dawntrail but it just felt like too forced. Especially the last trial where she breaks free to "save the day" kinda ruined the whole fight for me.
GreyFox23: Yeah. We are very much the Anime Uncle this expansion. We the side character now. We seen it, we done it. When shit hits the fans and the other characters or the MC can’t handle it, Anime uncle steps in and shows you he is a badass.
scottwagner2566: I didn't mind not being the main character. I did mind some of the writing choices.
louiskusters9452: That's not my problem with the story at all. My problem is the drop in writing quality and the fact this expansion seems like it's aimed at a much younger audience.
meriwidget3474: And somehow Wuk Lamat power crept even the WoL in DT. And Heavensward definitely wasn't "our" story either. Yet that worked?
gdrad: DT's storytelling was missing maybe 5m total of WoL focused bits. Some quick "WoL and Scion" asides to bluntly comment on how things are going out of ear shot of Wuk Lamat. We had one moment like that but, it should have been more of an ongoing thing.
Aside from that. I really wanted a mini-game instead of the defend the train cutscene. As well as WoL being visible during Wuk's sequence and a "Ask WoL to take care of it" button when Bakool's minions interfered.
Though I think there's a separate
warhammerguy: A bit more to it than just that.
I think Mike/Preach worded it the best, Dawntrails pacing is horrendous and the character we are following whose story it is supposed to be is set up to fail by writing team.
Many people came into the expansion liking her but at the end couldn't stand her.
zyrablank: Giving an opinion no one asked for:
I don't mind a story not being about us, per se. Just it felt too
kupocakey: It's cool if they want to frame things differently, really I was hoping they'd do it. We can't keep trying to repeat Shadowbringers/Endwalker forever. Doesn't stop the pacing being horrendous and the characters and concepts being woefully undercooked.
megabassx0: you become Auron basically. I'm down for that
Rumcake256: I like the direction that they went in with DawnTrail. I'm not done with it, yet (and am not reading comments pls don't reply to this, either), but I do like how we're taking a little bit of a backseat this time around. The WoL isn't really the most interesting character, anyway, and it's been really fun seeing Wuk Lamat's journey and all the stuff going on here.
I'm easily pleased, though, so I guess take that into account lol
