bolladragon: Archons in FFXIV are pretty equivalent to having have earned a doctoral degree. Thancred, for example, is so skilled in espionage and survival and his written dissertation was impressive enough that he was awarded by Sharlayan scholars and earned the archon mark.

JS-kr8fs: The whole mercenaries bringing down two Primals seemingly didn't go well. Not sure how people arrived to this exact conclusion in the writing itself, as I can't find any direct mention of it, but I suppose the common interpretation was to send waves of expendables to be tempered, a wave behind that to cut the tempered down, and the elites would wear the Primal down while this was happening.
