It Has To Be... FFXIV 7.2 Thoughts Theories

LukeGarou: I'm still of the mind that Calyx has never seen the crystal of Azem, much less clocked the tiny symbol on it from across the room. I'm still of the mind that he's simply recognizing its power, since we're doing a tiny version of interdimensional fusion ourselves when using it to call heroes from across the reflections to our aid.

yannobzh: the 5.3 crystal quote is an insane finding! Well done, I'm also sure there is a link to be made here

KyrenXIV: I have a feeling Calyx will turn out to be Deudalaphon directly, but just to put more evidence out there that their seat is somehow involved in this:

- Deudalaphon's domain was architecture and invention. Obviously goes hand-in-hand with everything in S9.

- In FF12, Deu's element was lightning

- It would entirely explain why S9 uses the proto-alphabet that was used before the sundering.

- As already stated, Gaius made no mention of using white auracite.

- Has the Ascian/Organization XIII penchant for sitting on top of tall buildings or structures while scheming.

- At the end we see him back in Living Memory. So either he's always been there and is somehow

kayyda: Great video! Will watch any of these from you, either these short ones or longer versions! :)

I saw a couple of 7.2 reactions/playthroughs and the amount of people that apparently didn't even notice/react to Calyx's looking at our Azem crystal and his "There it is...", and later him using the same name conventions we use for the reflections... was a bit shocking. Specially since those are the 2 moments that have persisted in my mind the most, having finished the story!

But of all the ffxiv playthroughs I have watched as an "Emotional Vampire" yours was the most entertaining, cause your attention to detail, nerd lore interest and love for the story is unmatched (and I guess it resembles my own :D) So I'm not surprised you wouldn't miss these 2 moments in 7.2!

wispernrain: Loved this patch. My personal theory is that Calyx with his illness was jealous of the immortality of the ascians, which lets say he learned of from Deudalaphon (good catch on the crystal), and inspired by them being aetheric beings is trying to evolve humanity into that by way of the endless. Instead of the ascians bringing back their people, he is going to evolve us back into them.

SandSquare: Danger bongos actually jump scared me.

mattp994: I think Calyx is a shard of Pashtarot, in a similar case to Gaia, not directly uplifted, but upon becoming an endless this process unlocked some of his supressed ascian memories.

Explains knowledge of reflections and also of the convocation crystal. I don't see why another ascian would think to teach him about convocation crystals.

Why Pashtarot? Well for one the crown is remarkably similar to part of Pashtarot's glyph. Pashtarot is the Preserver of Order. So if someone were to share in his values and drive to preserve a way of life, within a context that made it clear the existing systems were flawed and finite, they might well seek to Preserve Order in a different way.

Lyn685: I wouldn't mind getting to know more Ascians, as long as the writers keep it interesting.

AlphaoftheDeluge: I expect that he didn't recognize the crystal itself - no one should have known of its existence, as Emet specifically created it "in secret" - but rather its power. I do believe he monitored our fight against Queen Eternal, so he probably picked up readings of our use of the crystal but had no idea where that surge of energy came from. He spent much of 7.2 trying to push us into using that level of power again so he could assess our full capabilities, but he couldn't find it. His "Ah, there it is" line is then him recognizing "ahhh, okay, that's where that surge of power I detected before came from." 7.3 will probably see him trying to either swipe the crystal from us or at least prevent us from using it whenever that patch's Trial arrives.

rapmonied: MY FAVORITE SHOW IS ON

kuronaialtani: By far the most interesting bit to me is that he recognizes Azem’s crystal

A crystal that shouldn’t even exist outside of Emet’s knowledge therefore no other ascian could possibly

Yet the “key to inter-dimensional fusion” has its symbol over it, being the sun

Timboman2000: The line by Calyx at the end of the patch has a interesting level of subtext to it that I like.

We already have the "ANSWER", and now it's time for a new "QUESTION".

Aka, We know the answer to the question posed by Venat and Metion, which drove everything that came before this point.

And now we are left with the new question, of what to do with the remaining state of the worlds, now that their purpose for existing in this shattered manner is no longer needed for the very survival of life upon it (especially given that the Ancients were functionally immortal originally, and that is the same end that Calyx is seeking).

I don't think the threat of Rejoinings is actually finished.

pup7641: A thought I've had about all this is that Calyx's field of research, electrope beside, has been experimentation with souls. Storing souls, feral souls, etc. He may simply recognize Azem's crystal as an extremely dense soul. One that maybe he would be interested in experimenting on. I imagine this could take the form of anything from traveling to other reflections to manifesting Azem as a simulant.

Aloiv: After Simulant said their teleportation was triggered by the presence of "the key" when WoL and Sphene got teleported into the throne room and Calyx's interested in Azem's crystal, I'm starting to wonder if the key they are interested in isn't the cup but actually the crystal instead. Either that or the two are really just that similar in power and capability.

CasualVader: This is the first time I’ve seen someone (outside of people in live chats or comments) notice Calyx react to our using the Azem crystal.

warmybear0451: If there is an Ascian behind this, even if they're now dead, i'll bet one Gil on their true name being Kuja or Garland. Actually the Ascian would be an analogue for Garland and Calyx one for Kuja

nyburus9926: The ideas behind Calyx statement of the "Next Stage" of human evolution, puts me in the mind of the Genomes

Justcallmekai11: The thing I can't get over.... if he's an endless, what's with the IV? Also, he denigrates endless sphene's plan to turn everyone endless, but his plan is hardly any different, he still plans to use the key to harvest the shards of their aether. I can't understand what's different about his plan vs the original endless sphene's plan. Also, if he was behind the original endless sphene, why didn't he just take the key then instead of waiting for Zoraal ja to take it?

whostolemyspacebar: Another quality video, thanks Endy and thanks for filling in the gaps in lore that I would normally miss. I lost track of all those damn ascians a long time ago!

MaskedHeroLucky: I won’t be surprised in the slightest if we finally fight Calyx and he just turns into trance Kuja

bolladragon: One thing I'm dying to know is if the Aetherial Seas on the shards function the same as they do on the Source. We were under the impression that they mostly do, but I really wonder if some of the crazy stuff the people of the 9th got away with was because their Aetherial Sea has some strange quirk to it. I just really struggle with the idea Emet-Selch would allow the people there to do half the stuff they did with souls and memories since his literal job was to monitor and report anything off with the Sea and the cycles of life and death.

But, with time flowing so strangely, literally nothing says that those 400-ish years happened during the entirety of EW's timeframe on the Source.

jroberts2nd: If Calyx turns into Necron, I swear I will die laughing.

PetarBladeStrok: What a great patch!

Yuushiron: This is by far the best analysis I've seen yet and can agree with! I was sceptical if the ascians itself were involved (since its a popular community belief and some other youtubers wrongfully assume that Calyx IS an ascian?) and I disagreed. However, you kind of made a good point that deudalaphon could have "set the path" for him before he perished :) I really like this idea and perspective.

I also want to add that you should keep going! :D really enjoy your content

HaddaClu: My first thoughts on Calyx giving us the crown was that OG Sphene is going to be overwritten / taken over by Endless Sphene. The crown was pulsing, and as a regulator - as we know one of the main functions is to completely overwrite memories.

As for the crystal - I took it as Calyx believing that it may be able to substitute for the key as a whole.
