I Interviewed the Healers Going on Strike in FFXIV Dawntrail

dohsay6004: Honestly the way some of these boss fights are designed in DT …no way a healer can complain or be bored…All these fights require heal checks

F3nryl: If "Actually..." was a Person.

matrielle: "Striking since shadowbringer"

Wouldn't it be more like just a change of role at this point ?

Joppheimer: Ngl it feels like theres more of a tank strike when every roulette content needed a tank fill during the past 4 days

arturius9715: These guys sound exactly like what I would imagine someone that starts up a strike discord to sound like

jennaelise1193: As a SCH "main" (been playing since ARR) and someone who just finished DT MSQ, I had a fucking blast. I've done savage and cleared a couple ultimates, so I'm by no means a super casual player. But for DT, the dungeon and trials were great, I felt engaged, loved the new takes on mechanics and I obviously enjoyed the healer queue advantage. So I don't know if I'm just stupid or not as "hardcore" about the job classes I play, but I don't feel anything close to what these healers feel.

aidenswallowdrag: I love that you corrected the point about dps.

Healers have been required to dps since ARR. If you aren't dpsing as a healer, you are not playing the job correctly.

bloorulez: EXCELLENT STRIKE MY LIEGE

d4clt218: As a Healer, whenever I have a good tank I'm basically that one guy singing payphone instead of stressing. Though a part of me crave violence and want more tools to kill my enemies faster.

Corvus7159: I had a guy running Conjurer in the lv93 dungeon my first time through. He insisted he wasn't griefing and it was okay because I was on WAR. The DPS sat down at the start and I followed suit until we kicked him right at the 5min mark.

While it's true I would've been fine, it's a matter of principle and people need to get over themselves. If you're that mad either play a different role or gtfo, because actively griefing your party will not change anything

1000BabyRage: Xeno used to play Scholar too. “Scholar Xeems”, was it?

bortmode: My duty finder has been wall to wall 'tank in need' since the first minute of early access, clearly the strike is a bunch of nothing.

dracodragniel8648: Im still playing healer but its very clear that the team does not dedicate enough time to healer design. The Sage change on early access was ridiculous but at least I got an OGCD which is one of the things ive always said Sage should have.

lockofmetal8894: Just a request, please turn of subsounds during interviews and stuff. It's a very loud one & it interrupts the flow & can make you miss out on things you or they say.

ElAracuan-gz3xo: Xeno: Would you agree that the healer role is efficient?

Healer: gives a literal graduating thesis presentation on the fluctuating state of healing across expansions

ElenaTheMenace: I had a Puppet's Bunker roulette run today where myself on SCH and my party mate on SGE carried the entire alliance and rezzed entire parties multiple times. Sometimes the most fun is emergent tomfoolery. I do agree that healers are not as fun as they were, but I am also an old miserable bastard that misses HW MCH so...

SpiderriaN: This is a good case of how important charisma is when trying to get people to support your cause. I generally agree with what these guys were saying, more complexity in healing and a better dps rotation would be nice. Yet I still found myself being opposed to their suggestions because they sound so whiney. I do want more job complexity to help content feel more engaging but man this video was just a bit hard to watch due to the way these people were presenting their points and how they carried themselves.

I won't be striking personally because I am not a healer main to begin with, I play it very casually. Also I've seen a lot of JP players saying they like how healers play right now and that if you want to deal damage you should just play a dps. That makes me think Square will not change anything if their home, preferred audience is happy.

Still glad Xeems decided to give these guys a platform to talk about their points even if I don't agree with everything they said or how they want to accomplish it.

I just hope they get better at public speaking

easaa9918: Mean while all my dailies are tank needed and i get insta queues lol

siyrean: thank you for being the one streamer not acting a dick about this.

Tom_Book: About 28 minutes in, just a thought... They could really use some training in how to speak. Rapidfiring a thesis without breathing for several minutes straight doesnt make your argument true. It just disconnects the brain of people trying to listen to your monologue.

JustinAnywhere: "hectic enough to be fun" sums up Dawntrail to a T. These healers would absolutely be loving this expac if they were playing it.

ehko9989: Even when I encounter a healer trying to do his job, I end up healing the rest of the group myself as a war during dungeon bosses because they just die to mechanics. Once I see more than half my healers managing to survive a dungeon boss when playing through the msq, I might stand with such a protest.

LivvieLynn: After reading comments I get why you all drive Xeno crazy. lol

spidey8228: After actually sitting down and listening to them, I don't think they deserve the amount of omegaluls and cringe comments that they get.

It does take a certain amount of confidence in ones stance to even go on stream and do this interview, especially after seeing chats reaction to their strike as a whole and still do it with a straight face and I think that alone is noteworthy even if you think their desires and methods are unrealistic or petty.

I do agree with a surprising amount of their views in terms of that casual and hardcore content have almost gotten formulatic in that as long as your party is relatively geared and awake, healing becomes boring in its downtime and theres not much room between the skill floor and ceiling beyond squeezing one more glare in between ogcds.

Not so much the ideas they want implimented to the game as a whole like opt in hard mode dungeons etc, if anything I personally feel more like this is a problem of job design rather than content, but I can admit this whole thing is a joint problem from the two.

Idk, overall kudos to them for doing the interview knowing they'll get clowned on and making their views more clear.

maik5201: im lvling 4 healers at once only doing roulettes, ty strike.

today I found a war in lvl89 dng, not using bloodwhetting not even once time. I guess he was on the strike too

wpelfeta: I just want the healer DPS rotation to not be boring.

Lunarowl: Personal Opinion:

I think it is silly to have a healer strike myself. I understand that there are issues with healers by design as I do play all four healers (and have played Savage Ultimate). However, having a strike of not using a healer will not solve the issue itself, and what are the chances that Square Enix/JPN would care about the strike?

I believe that if ppl want to do a strike about it, then do it effectively such as unsubscribe the game, and letting Square Enix know that you actually meant it (see example of WoW players back then with their exodus during 6.0 End Walker). A business company will only start to care if their income has been affected, and that is the harsh truth of reality.

As for my own view, I stand by the view that: if I want to DPS or have a form of DPS rotation, then I would just go and play DPS job. There's a reason why we have a holy trinity of a Tank, Healer, and Dps present here in FF14 and I feel that Square Enix/team is trying to preserve that as a baseline.

In the end of the day, we have to remember that this is their game. They can take players opinion and feedback in mind, but they're the ones that make the decisions because that's what their visioning of the game would be.

ronmexico7256: Most wholesome streamer, least wholesome fan base

CH0015: It’s nice Xeno listened to them. Arthas just speaks over his in his interview

rexcyjones9416: As a GNB/DRK tank main, i implore healers to comeback. Dungeons hits like a truck

sirhc1528: A healer strike?

I helped the DPS to get through the leveling dungeons, 3 at a time with me as WAR tank.

oriji8139: Yo this was actually a interesting discussion! I was expecting this to be a meme tbh but they have some good ideas

WrexsolToob: I've commented this in other videos, but healers shine the brightest in new content when no one knows what they're doing. The playerbase at large has gotten better at the game and when you're so good at healing that it is no longer interesting to you, you've grown out of the role. I think this group's expectations are way too high vs. what SE wants to do with the content. SE wants to make the content more accessible, so it makes sense to 'gimp' all roles to a certain degree and ramp up the general fight difficulty with mechanics. Also: everyone reacts to content differently, so it's hard to find the average ground that works for everybody. There are people who struggle

sgtass1: One of the healers sounds like he is one sec away from crying

Karpata1: The real problem is that the 'Healing' part of healer and the 'Tanking' part of tanks is almost redundant in 99% of content. At least compared to other MMOs.

Throw out the odd oGCD here and there and back to doing damage.

On top of that - the Healer 'DPS rotation' is fundamentally boring and literally 1 dot and 1 spam button yet it is the thing you'll be doing most of the time.

The most fun you'll have on a healer in FF14 is when everything goes wrong. Other healer DCed, 3 or 4 people in the dirt cause mistakes were made, relentless raid-wides and mechanics while trying to piece the party back together. That feels amazing but sadly it's a rare occurrence.

Shadow.Darkraven: i have been on and off healing since arr2.4 and as someone who very actively heals and does damage while doing class specific things the only notes i have are

whm: damn my group is too good i have to waste Lily's to charge the blood lily

new astro when its tank picto picto me: stuffing 5 cards into tanks mouth

FieldMarshall3: My favorite part about the strike is that its not noticable ingame at all, at least on NA.

At the end of the day this "healer strike" is just a very very small number of upset and loud people who thinks that the majority healers agree with them when they obviously dont.

Iseu47: Good interview/discussion. I enjoyed listening to it. As someone just coming back to the game after a couple years' break, I don't have much of an opinion on the current state, but I always enjoy the theory-crafting. My personal theory is that healers are one part chaos gremlins, and enjoy randomness and things not going to plan, or a plan that's a bit unpredictable. And their list of favorite encounters seems to agree with that. Which also means that the best place to be a healer is either progressing or in the most casual content where people don't know what they're doing.

It should also mean that Astro leaning into randomness with cards should also be a favorite, but SE never has gotten that card system quite right (and we the community optimize the fun out of it pretty fast too). Not that I think I could do any better.

I suspect that if they focused on making the healers more fun to play solo then it would also fix a lot of the high level issues. That and leaning into some classes being simpler and some more difficult, but I agree with Xeno that since everyone has favorite classes just for aesthetics, that's not really likely to happen.

-Boone: If you could turn off the subscriber sounds during interviews, it'd really be appreciated. Not trying to be rude or anything, and not sure if it goes on the entire time, but in the beginning, to me atleast, it's really distracting when the guests are speaking

LupusArcavius: The person talking about doing dungeons with trusts versus not doing them doesn’t seem to understand how the trusts work.

They say if you want an easy dungeon do it with trusts and if you want more of a challenge do it with people and the content should be more difficult with people.

The content can’t be different for trusts versus not trusts. The content is the content and trusts need to be able to do it so the content has to be dialed into how the trusts work. Which is why some dungeon encounters in older dungeons were changed to make it trust friendly

NotExplicable: Healers as a job/mindset want to feel needed and take care of the party, so when a new expansion comes out and we ALREADY ADJUST to doing more DPS in all content that can cause frustration in role. So the feeling is give me more dps combos then if you don't want to make fights harder in normal content, its one thing if its a savage raid/hard content without healer. In normal dungeons why even bother.

Kerracudda: The fact that one of them said that most ppl will agree with the reason they're "striking" but just not the actual strike part shows how dumb this is and if anything i gets less ppl on their side

silthosreaper1205: The way they talk they should honestly quit the game. They seem to hate everything. Their class, dungeon design, mechs fuck did they even say they like anything but stormblood healer. I watch people die all the time from lack of healing and they want the class to be harder. Was in a alliance raid yesterday and the MT died 3 times from no heals.

Aberusugi: "RDM have addle and magic barrier which is a lot compared to what used to be there"

Pretty sure addle has been around since red mage was first introduced. The recast timer has been reduced significantly though. It used to be a 120 second cd, then changed to 90 seconds during stormblood, then 60 seconds in shadowbringers, then down to 30 seconds, and they kept adding more and more potency reduction. Feint got pretty much the same round of buffs.

Magick Barrier was a big buff, but it's similar to other ranged jobs kits, it just brought RDM up to parity with the rest is all. Before Magick Barrier they were significantly weaker in terms of that added utility. Giving ranged DPS a rotation of mits is interesting, it creates some extra complexity slightly that's fun, similar to how melee dps had it all along.

JaHaskins12: Played since beta, and I can conclude, holy shit FF14 healers are such piss babies.

2Syndras1Cup: Me playing Viper: "What healer strike, lmao?"

candykit5382: They had some good points on fight design having more frequent instances of damage to allow using heals, even if its just your instants.

But everything other than that was kind of hilariously bad. They clearly never did pharos when it was new. Thats why the bird is the only one they had trouble with, because its the only one that can wipe you now with the bird enrage.

"Ive been striking since shadowbringers" is also telling. Having to gimp himself to do the fights is just really cringe, its easy to do with crafted gear! Uh huh. Then talks about stormblood. Nothing made me take him less seriously.

Horstveratu: What even is a harder job? That's silly, after 100h it's all muscle memory anyway

MarcusMaybenot: In regards to the Dragoon rework they didn't say it was gonna huge, they even delayed it specifically due to negative feedback on other reworks.
