As someone who played since launch day and has not been unsubbed since the start, I personally think the devs HAVE leaned too far to one end of the pendulum in terms of homogenization. For context, I used to be more hard core, I now consider myself casual.
I for one see Heavensward balance as extremely overblown, jobs being "excluded" stemmed 100% from Resistance-Down debuffs, as well as Paladin being awful against magical damage. That's it, that's why jobs were excluded, not because they were shit, but because party optimization was rigid and necessary unless you were over geared.
Both of these things are, and were, easily fixed by things they implemented in Stormblood, removal of the debuffs, and fixing block (I think that was Stormblood?) The problem is, they kept going, slowly picking piece by piece from jobs that weren't the golden child in the role.
Every job back in the day DID have an identity, and felt more unique to play. Were they harder? Yes. Were some TOO hard? Yes. These things can be fixed without ripping the soul from the job. I main Machinist. It's not even remotely close and has gone through 3 massive transformations since it's inception, and it's inception was in my opinion peak design for a gun/proc based job.
The issue is we've moved a bit too far in one direction. Yoshi P has admitted this in recent interviews. Now, Yoshi P is a PR man, he's going to say things to eat your subscription, he doesn't have to say things that are true, but Dawntrail has shown the design is moving in a slightly better direction with some of the mechanics in this tier.
Through EW and a good bit now, everything is on a strict timer, and the only way the Devs can make things feel difficult is if they glue your two minutes with an obnoxious mechanic.I will say it feels rewarding if it is difficult to execute. But in essence, this does not feel fun, and it will never feel fun.
Even more recently like Shadowbringers where 2 minutes were slowly disappearing. Even small optimizations of "oh, the MNK has Brotherhood at 80 seconds, let me save x y z to get a bit extra out, or help out his chakra stacks" is completely gone. Jobs on 60s rotations used to get to experience more instances of having to optimize and prepare for mechanics, not "oh the whole raid gets to do the obnoxious 2 minutes at the same time!" which only benefits mobile jobs. (Lol 7.0 Black Mage)
All I'm saying is, these things that they have fixed, and our boy Xeno has "theoretically" gotten implemented for the game are good, but now we have it too good if you ask me. Nothing makes me want to get out there and learn or optimize my job more, because it's handed to me on a 2 minute timer.

grandruby5343: The easiest possible changes that can be done to DRK and GNB in terms of their mits is to just give Dark Mind, Dark Missionary, and Heart of Light a 10% damage reduction across the board and keep the magic damage reduction. That way, they aren't completely useless for full sections of fights. I personally like the idea of having something excel greatly when it's niche comes up, but when it's unusable

But i did it for the raid and i we got thru the encounters. The time where i could play PLD i was so happy. Unfortunately for the dude you are reacting too, he is objectively wrong about DRK and it needs a rework.
aiu941: tbh i think both the other guy and xeno have a point. there shouldn't be a tank that's strictly worse than everyone else in every area, xeno is right. but xeno does also tend to just want things to be easy cause he's constantly advocating for removing difficulty in jobs gameplay, or when he looks at tanks in dungeons he's like "no actually warrior being unkillable is good, the other tanks is unpowered war isnt op" or "gnb needs to have nm buffed so everything fits in" instead of letting players figure out what's worth. although im not sure calling him a pissbaby is very productive lol
