NotTheWheel: I wrote this elsewhere - Midcore isn't about a set of difficulty I actually think for example some things in Bozja are quite difficult for example. That's a piece of content people call Midcore.
Midcore means to me investment.
Casual content is the story, crafting, treasure maps, hunts. Non-commital.
Hardcore content is Savage and Ultimates which require a lot of commitment.
Midcore is content you can do that has degrees of challenge which you can invest time into but you don't HAVE to go hard or make plans to achieve it. Deep dungeons, Eureka/Bozja, Variant dungeons are midcore. Things you can grind solo or with friends that vary in how difficult they can become but let you play the game and spend time in it.
d0k0night: People are getting midcore all wrong. NO, Savage is not midcore. EX is. We need more EX-level difficulty. Stuff that doesn't result in toxicity and doesn't take all night to clear. Something that's harder than normal but isn't on the level where you have to be a 10 year vet to clear.
Tzimisce: As a long time casual player, I don't want more Ex level or harder content (don't begrudge it for those who do want it), I want content between casual and Ex. I also want them to fix gear scaling so that casual content remains close to it's initial difficulty regardless of gear.
weetang9899: I don't think that savage is midcore. I'd say savage is high-end sweat content that's just below ultimate. The problem with the chaotic raid is that once it's been farmed by the sweats, it's going to be super dead and never be touched. 23 people wiping for one person's mistake will deter a lot of people - including myself, as I don't want to go in and hold people back as I learn the fight. I look at PF right now and there's not many up for the chaotic raid and most of them are all experienced with a few requiring 10 clears.
CoDwithSwords: The fact that aside from fates there is NO FUCKING REASON to explore ANY OF THE GAME is infuriating in an MMO. DO SOMETHING IN YOUR WORLD. YOU HAVE SIX MAPS FOR EACH EXPANSION. I'm madge.
bitvanbite: My favorite of Smileton was when one of the Loporrits calls another Loporrit's mom a cabbage
immersion9880: I just want my relics and exploration zones back.
Wolfoso: I hope we don't go back to easy dungeons, because this expansion's difficulty, especially in the Expert range, was just
PapiKamikaze: Here’s a prime example of why people don’t like and don’t wanna do hardcore content. The toxic environment and the veteran raiders, you just have to read the comment section of every FFXIV video. I really hope FFXIV can survive with raiders only.
coryaustin7379: I just want some stuff to grind out in a zone that actually makes the game feel like an MMORPG. Bozja, while boring to look at, is one of the few times I actually feel like I'm playing an MMORPG in FFXIV. People are out spawning CE's/Skirmishes, farming mounts or glamour or w/e. I'm so tired of every expansion being about two weeks of seeing people out in the world and then every zone is a complete ghost town a month later. Maybe I see a hunt train or a map group before they vanish but other than that....nothing.
But yeah, I hope the tank busters continue to improve, the last time I enjoyed a TB was Susano but that was more of a visual thing.
25xxfrostxx: Unfortunately according to Yoshi P's new years post, we're only getting two patches in 2025. That puts us into 2027 before 8.0 so any pivots they do or adjustments they make won't be here in enough time to make a difference on current issues. I really feel like they are cannibalizing CBU3 to compensate for Sqenix's other failures and routing talent away from 14, their most profitable product by a very large margin.
OCrAcIK: If alliance raids are designed for people who dont participate in savage, why dont they unlock the tier on the mid-patch. The content may be easier or harder or whatever it definetly went easier this expac, but their schedule and rigid system is garbage, thats the main problem.
IchiharaAsako: I find it wild that EX is considered casual. Both the combat devs and the raiding community sure have lost touch with 90% of the playerbase.
yanipheonu: Most people do not do savage or ultimate content.
If savage is midcore, most people will never do midcore content.
blackandwhiteduo4971: Its funny, people will complain literally no matter what, because in endwalker there wasnt alot of content and the casual content was braindead easy and a sleepfest, sure there was ultimates and criterion, but average player aint doing those, and what casual players had was pretty bad with no long form content where all players can converge and do stuff together in a exploration zone.
Now that we got harder content that is more accessible, people are complaining about it, you can argue about the body checks being too much for chaotic but point is. People will always complain
GanonAutumn777: Delaying exploration forays till mid expansion has been an issue since shb
Expansion launch and x.1 patch shouldnt always be a wasteland that only high end raiders log into. And I say that as a high end raider myself
Sure i like ultimate but I love content like eureka and bozja just as much if not more. My personal preferences aside. They seriously need to put the long term grindy content earlier in the expansiom so everyone has the incentive to work on them early on and remained subbed to the game
Their current release structure is not sustainable and itll cause the player count to continue bleeding if nothing is done about it
Nutrafin-3D: I know Im just adding more fuel to the fire on this argument, but I always thought midcore was between complete braindead normal MSQ difficulty and extreme. Higher difficulty, less chance of failing because of constant body checks.
choumakousen: MSQ = casual
extreme trials = casual
savage raids = casual
criterion savage dungeons = casual
chaotic alliance raids = casual
legacy ultimates = casual
current ultimates = casual
crafting = actually midcore
glamours = now hold the fuck up
Andrew-l3h: I just want a bridge from normal into ex and higher raiding. For me normals is too easy and the jump into extreme is too hard.
cielnor9666: Just get rid of the over reliance of body checks on everything as a mechanic, its just boring and used waaaaaay to much in content.
Some of the coolest moments in mmos when you and whats left of your party secures a kill, not 1 random dude died so you gotta restart the fight again.
silverwill-x7v: Hearing that the devs lump EXs into casual is the most disheartening thing I have ever heard from them. I have never managed to grind out 99 totems in any EX, I always burn out somewhere in the 20-40 range. I should not be burning out on casual content. I struggle with Everkeep EX more than the first three savages of this tier, and that is not the only EX that I feel is harder than some savage fights. So to say the mythical midcore lays between EX and savage is literal nonsense to me.
cycloneofsouls: "we want content thats harder then ultimate" no you(the royal you) don't lmao. When we got top everyone just fucking complained it was too hard and cheated to clear it.
Nickklein13: I don’t think FFXIV can attack “midcore” content until there is a — THIS IS WHAT MIDCORE IS — Standard to set proper expectations, because if you ask the player base, midcore changes in every single conversation.
Dastan117: It just needs more casual battle content that people can grind for cosmetics for all jobs, and make it last enough realistically to until the next patch. People would literally log in for glam. We have the hard content in the game already. Casuals are missing content. That's the main complaint as to why people are like "lol no content" these last 2 expansions. Hopefully 7.2's casual content incoming will address some of it with the cosmic exploration and the new exploration zone, which I hope is tied to the new relic weapon in some way.
HolliThatsMe: The takeaway I get from this article is that the lead battle designer is out of touch with players who don't engage in extreme or harder content, so the majority of their playerbase, and it's not gonna get better anytime soon
lecrab8090: Chaotic is not midcore. Savage is not midcore. Ex is pushing it. I don’t care who is making these claims. This is a failure to understand how 99% of people interact with video games.
