FFXIV Patch 7.2 Tank Balance Changes Make No Sense Classic Xeno Rant

marcossierra3498: Is it insane to say that for ff14 to be cured of the chaotic state it is in right now that the devs need to take a step back and overview everything. Feels like each expansion that comes out has caused a bigger rift in issues.

Playerk125: i use to play MCH in Endwalker, but damme I'm so fed up with the balancing BS, its not even funny anymore, i gone so far and locket my MCH Job stone in a no longer paid retainer, i cant even change back in to this Job,

Druidlover: They could give flamethrower a use besides allowing you time to take a sippy during dungeon trash or they could continue turning the number knobs an inconsequential amount.

Inhaledcorn: As a GNB main, I didn't want a buff to a skill that already feels like ass if I don't DH/Crit it. I wanted them to fix the wonky 2-cartridge 2-minute window. I don't want to be punished for uptime!

If the problem is fights with high downtime, then give GNB something to do during that downtime. Quick Reload is still there in the files! Just use that.

Edit: Further thoughts about what Xeno said about No Mercy: I could see them dropping Sonic Break or causing it to upgrade to Double Down since both it and Break have a 60s cooldown that basically want to align with No Mercy. They could either keep the DoT on Double Down or just make Sonic Break do raw damage.

Mangobushes: Hey Xeno! I really appreciate your content and the way you break things down! I wanted to bring up something about the recent Pictomancer changes because I feel like the nerfs could have been handled better, and it would really help if this issue got more attention.

While a nerf was expected (and deserved!), the way the numbers were adjusted has really hurt how the job feels. Paintings are now weaker than our filler, making Pictomancer feel like “Paintomancer.” Worse, the 1-minute burst (Picto Hammer) is now a DPS loss in full uptime fights, which feels really unintuitive—especially when Holy in White is now a better movement tool than Hammer in these situations.

As a result, we end up ignoring our 1-minute burst and just sitting on two stacks, just to use 1 for our 2 min burst during Starry muse. Since Starry Muse already provides a strong party buff, why not nerf that instead of gutting Paintings? Reducing it from 5% to 2-3% would still keep the job balanced while preserving its core mechanics.

Reaper follows this logic—strong personal damage but a weak party buff. Why not apply the same philosophy here? I’d love to hear your thoughts, and if you think it’s worth raising awareness. A small adjustment could go a long way in keeping Picto fun to play.

UltimegaSeven: I still dont get how people want SMN to be more exciting and we got two reworked jobs (BLM and MNK) as a response in a way no one wanted or even could imagine. Like why does MCh STILL have the Flamethrower...

Kiobao: As a smn and mch player and one who wants to enjoy these jobs, and I'm no masochistic person, I feel personally attacked. I guess I'll try out blm.

What makes this weirder is that they are kinda bad at this and there arent other real ways to play these jobs. Its not like we have talent trees to balance, multiple skills you can pick from to think about, special weapon interactions like a double proc for something. Its mostly basic stuff and they still suck at balancing and designing things with the timers, buff windows etc. you can maybe have slight spell speed stuff making slight differences but it doesn't feel that impactful to me.
