Dewkeeper: Garrett: "Thing X isn't / won't be relevant/important"
Writers: "How many times do we need to teach you this lesson, hair man?!"
AeosLoire: It genuinely annoys me when people say "This is a standalone story that doesn't seem to lead into anything in the future." It's honestly such a a dumb take. Sure, even if it doesn't lead up to anything right away in Dawntrail, XIV has always had to use pre-established lore to lay breadcrumbs for the future even if it's not directly connected right now. The warriors of darkness were the same way in Heavensward.
inoob26: Y'shtola is now rapidly approaching your office due to the existence of the thumbnail for this video
rossker123: I think the "endwalker is bad" discourse didn't really hit full stride until the end of 6.2/6.3
Nothing Endwalker put out was bad really, but the longer release cycle and focus on QoL content made the patches feel more sparse than they were and caused many folks to feel left behind.
jessecox: The best part of this is knowing how videos are made, and recognizing that the behind the scenes of this intro has to be hilariously goofy.
edit: that "thing" is called a cloche... or if you're not a dingus, it's a pot lid :P
double edit: just sayin if you want more info on the Allagan/Merycidia war my "history of hydaelyn" video talks about it spoiler free
noppornwongrassamee8941: In real world myth, dragons have treasure hoards. In FF14, dragons don't have treasure hoards... except for Vtra.
I feel like FF14 did something clever here with this dungeon.
holo_val: [Garrett] "I was right about this one"
[John Cena] "ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT"
ChrisPyre: Garret identified exactly why I call FFXIV my favorite book series I’ve ever played. Stuff like president dragon really feels like the kind of diatribe George RR or Tolkien would go on to help build the world in a fantasy novel. But in an RPG? The last thing I’d expect.
loupinconnu: See, we all call it filler and then 2 expansions from now they're going to make it a central storyline and its going to completely recontextualize the entire patch story.
Afrien_art: The lack of content in between patch’s made many players think the post endwalker msq for 6.1 onwards was uninteresting; it didn’t help that it was done on the first day it came out.
The story is great and will be relevant in a future expansion, like what happened with the warriors of darkness in post heavensward. In my opinion some players don’t understand the importance of setting up the foundation for a good story.
vaidenkelsier7757: Man, this is one place where I'll disagree with Garrett, because I absolutely love
jaesaces: Funny enough, Ivalice raids are strangely relevant if you explore the right corners of this expansion.
magickoopa24: Weird to say Ivalice didn't matter when bozja was all dependent on it. Sure, it wasn't necessary for MSQ, but you don't get the diablo armament without all the auracite summons that happened in bozja/zadnor
Raika63: World building is often necessarily mundane, I think. There's also something inherently funny to me about a dragon doing mundane day to day governance. Some people really like the political world building, especially because it often grows into more interesting stories down the road, but the seeds are planted in a way that doesn't seem interesting at the time. You don't get the ARR patch finale without setting up the political tensions in Ul'dah (although some of the crystal brave stuff in ARR could be shorter, I think the 6.1 stuff is over with pretty quick)
ChrisPyre: Oh Garrett’s face during Kyle’s shade cooking is FANTASTIC.
Vfanatic1: It's important to remember that a decent chunk of the hate was because Zepla had a for lack of a better word Meltdown over being unable to beat ToP and ranting about how "Endwalker bad" because of it and then people saw this as an opportunity to dog on FFXIV as a whole because it doesn't fit their particular mold
ExileTwilight: I can totally see Matoya shaking her head and muttering how Y'sthola would regret that incantation one day.
Brozinator97: Radz At Han is rebuilding, it got hit hard by the Final Days, so I really like the politics part. A theme of Endwalker is after tragedy we start again and carry on, and Radz At Han as a nation is recovering from that tragedy.
ChrisMajors: Kyle winning the staring contest with every boss will never not be funny to me.
anaalvensleben789: 'Alisaie and....Red Alisaie?' Considering you literally JUST spoke to the voice of Blue Alisaie, this brain fart killed me.
Ephlanuist: Recall the Void Ark. Voidsent summoning is contractual magic. The Null Rod doesn't kill voidsent, but voids their contacts forcing them back to their world
Qemdoulum: That editor edit was fire. Fantastic gag.
wackyzap1304: I agree the Thavnair political stuff wasn't interesting, but I appreciate that the writers wanted to highlight that the devastation of the Final Days didn't just magically fade away with the conclusion of 6.0. The parts of the world hit the hardest are still healing. It was also nice that they put a bow on the Khalzahl dude (the one they name the orphanage after), even if the MSQ really didn't make us care much about him at all.
kobeles1: primal summoning is creation magic. void summoning is actual summoning from another dimension. primal disperse back into aether when they die. just like bahamut, alexander, and the waring triad
