I'm in the camp if thinking Wuk Lamat is a weak point in DT, and while I do think the VO (VA direction) is of less quality than average for the game, that is not the main reason.

For me it's that her specific type of character growth is more or less the sole focus of the MSQ for a big part of the MSQ. It is very similar to SB and how I feel about Lyse. I like Lyse now, after the growth. Didn't like the growth and it's basically the same with Wuk Lamat. The last cutscene with her in 7.0 was great (there was several others as well, it's not like I didn't enjoy any of them through the story, but I'm avoding specifics) but I don't think a single one of the "pep talks" she gave ever landed.

I did however, for the most part, enjoys Alphinaud's journey, except I thought it overstayed its welcome with the Crystal Braves plot. So when the "young character learns about the world" was in focus, it just doesn't seem to work for me. When it's more in the background, as with Alphinaud in HW, it can work very well. Zero is a bit of an outlier, because I liked the 6.1-6.5 patches, even though you could describe them as something as shouldn't like, based on my I defined above. I think this is because I treated the void lore as the main thing mentally, and it made it work.

My main issue with DT is not something new to DT though, and that is the clear stuggle the devs have to make good cut scenes and dialogue with the WOL, when they have to be a blank slate with more or less no room to act within a scene. It was very noticeable for me in DT, but I think this has always been the case. I'm just more aware of it now.

The WoL can do nothing in a scene. We can't cast spells, attack, defend, unless it can be done in a generic "every job can perform, and every player's WOL would do, this action". I don't envy the devs trying to write a story within these restrictions.

reshypoo9447: Few things to keep in mind.

Not everyone has a friend who plays, or has a streaming crowd to vent to, so it's natural to seek somewhere, anywhere, to release our feelings.

You guys will be experiencing it at a bite-sized pace, rather than experiencing all of it (relatively) rapidly over the last two weeks. It's a lot easier to endure an irritation when there's a sizable gap between occurrences.

Lastly, disliking one factor of a game does not mean we hate the entire game. I distinctly remember you guys vocally (and irrationally) disliking the Il Mheg dog-people, yet I'm pretty sure you still overall enjoyed Shadowbringers.

DameonStarflame: Ran into Mr. Happy while poking around a zone trying to level up my WHM so it could be on standby for the inevitable of my Monk capping and wasting EXP from MSQ. Was doing a few FATES and found a swarm of people, so I threw a few heals out to a few hurting units (great for aggro generation, the thing FATES care most about) and one of them was Mr. Happy. I had to double check with my FC to confirm the details of what he played and what server he was on, but it's a neat little thing I can say I did. Now back to MSQ I go! \o/

fayte0618: Really excited for the Wuk Lamat hate debate. Personally, I like her and how she fits in the entire character roster but I can see why some don’t both in game and probably in a meta sense.

RockR277: Now that I'm about halfway through DT, I really don't understand the whole "it's not about me" thing. I don't see how it's any different than any other expansion we've played. Even ShB, which is the most "about WoL" expac by far, so much of it is centered around the scions and the people you meet on the first.
