7.2 Is The Patch FFXIV Badly Needed

drayman101: I feel like the "slow burn" worldbuilding-first nature of FF14's storytelling is at odds with the slow drip-feed of new story content to develop the story to be more interesting. It almost punishes you for playing patch-to-patch, rather than taking long breaks and catching up on multiple patches at once, something I didn't have to think about until I caught up to the then-current endgame in Shadowbringers' post MSQ patches. But then you also run into the problem of waiting for hours for your Party Finder to fill, because most people only do the most current content.

OkamiSamaa: "The formula worked" im SICK of hearing "formula". I don't want every expansion to be the fucking same. So do something different??? How about that. MMOs are stale because THEY REGURGITATE the same SHIT to us every time. It's really boring

decenoxus: I feel that instead of "the patch" it needed it would be more accurate to say 7.2 is "One of" the patches that FFXIV needed. 7.2 is a turn toward and a step in better direction. Can't forsee the future though, 7.3 and other can still stumble or fall flat. It will take the rest of the expansion to untangle the mess they did with Dawntrail.

kirigherkins: Not launching occult crescent is insane imo, it's the only thing I wanted to play in 7.2 but it's still nearly TWO MONTHS AWAY

Fndlord: Not gonna lie Quazii, this is a great podcast. You get to the topics and don't squander around. To think this is a relatively new podcast for the game, and its already one of the best. Good going brotha.

EmperorPanda: MSQ was pretty good, hope we don't get rid of Calyx in 7.3 because it will feel too soon.

HakaishinCat: I agree that they should throw away the 2 min cooldown and other forced synergy elements on jobs. Let players figure out the synergy and just focus on jobs being fun and much more unique.

25xxfrostxx: The patch times being extended an entire month since Shadowbringers is a huge part of the problem. We're at 4.5 months between updates and that is long enough for me to stop caring. As it is, we're looking at August for 7.3, December for 7.4, April/early May 2026 for 7.5 and then probably December of 2026 for 8.0. 5 months added to the time between expansions is far too long. They stretched out the content delivery but still expect me to pay them for the dead time.

We're going to get Occult Crescent in the end of May and then no updates to it until 7.5. There is no way that will occupy me for a year. It feels like the team has collapsed and they're operating with half of the number of people that they need and this just isn't going to work for me. I don't know if they put people on other projects (I had heard that the people they moved to FF16 were re-assigned to the Fantasian port) and that became permanent or what but something has to change for the better internally.

vatesveritas7084: Yep, here we go. More brutal "static only" content, and the sweaty no-lifers will all applaud... until it kills the raiding community. If it can't be done with the average PF it shouldn't be in the game. Full stop. Yoshi and crew whines about third party tools and content but then makes content that people can't do without discord and other third party tools. But sure, invest a ton of development cycles into something 10% of your player base will enjoy. Great strat guys. Keep at it.

ouromov2895: I hope they shake the formula, the waits are too long. The MSQ really needs to get back to dealing with people and politics, human issues, actual CHARACTERS and their problems with a backround of a whole nation being shaken thats what people fell in love with. Not these rehash anime-flavored stories. As long as they don't try to force us to symphatize with the new villain or more endless who ARE NOT PEOPLE it might work to close off Dawntrail. They need to stop this culture of silence too, and start giving us roadmaps like any other self-respecting dev.

benchmarkstation941: Can't believe 10 years later, this game is still about World First, formula, static, Guides, etc. These are the reason MMOs are dying.

ifaeriewraith: Still not returning to xiv for the unforeseeable future.

I’ve been playing xiv since 1.0. 7.0 just completely threw my mindset. Can’t just throw me some garbage and then expect me to get excited when content actually gets good after two major patches and 6 months of waiting.

hallo-mt5tx: 7.0 made me realize there is no reason for me to play before the last patch

ill get the expansion for 50% off, play for 2 months and quit every 2 years from now on

m0o0ntecrist08: QUAZI please play FFXIV on stream i want to see you play

italian504: Discord stuff aside, FCs don't have anything outside of Roleplay to organize ingame and many FCs that existed since 2.0 on balmung for instance are still around to this day even if they changed names a lot or not. The FC community is harder and harder when the game has nothing much to really warrant being in one outside of friends or just so you won't get spammed.

Airships and Subs being locked behind FC content as is extra rooms for members if you somehow get a home is another thing. I remember in wow that regardless if you did PVP/PVE/RP/whatever it was, the Guild System was a convenient way to group together not just ingame but to show a sort of connection and presence. When you see someone with the guild tag of like and they are the best in the server, you know they stand out. Or back on Balmung when you see tags like or you know they were some serious time RPers. But since servers don't matter even more than ever, the identity of an FC is boiled down to a funny name on your character rather than a genuine community of people. The buffs have not been updated in so many years either, leading to just lackluster benefits.

The FC concept is outdated because guilds as a system have no reason to exist when the communication in a video game is no longer part of the reason to play an MMORPG. The Social element worked before only because it was harder to keep in touch with most people or speak to them in a chatroom if you didn't know their Info or if they even had the accounts for MSN. Emails took forever and forums were not as instant of replies as Discord Chat rooms.

In order for FC to be worth investing in, they have to give them more features. More benefits. What they offer now is just worthless without a house and still empty with one. There's no reason to start one at all and joining an existing FC you only do for the sake of owning a private room, not so much for friends (Less you are on RP servers)

brandonn161: Can you try and bring Xenosys Vex on to one of these eps?? That'd be amazing to see. Esp if its with Arthur!

dbull620: The main struggle MCH has in this tier is moreso how disjointed their AOE is from the rest of their kit, which is especially prevalent in M6S:

1) Auto-Crossbow does not reduce the cool downs for Checkmate and Double Check like Blazing Shot does, last I heard you need 6 enemies for Auto-Crossbow to be a DPS gain because of this.

2) Air Anchor lacks AOE fall off damage nor does it have a separate AOE button with a shared cooldown like Bio Blaster and Drill do.

3) No AOE spender for your battery meter.

4) No AOE fall off damage for Wildfire.

5) Flamethrower, your level 70 capstone skill and one of your few dedicated AOE buttons is basically DPS neutral with your other options, maybe slightly better in 7.2 since they decided in their infinite wisdom to nerf Scattergun.

donimmortal7692: As a kind of achievement hunter myself (I do everything except on patch savage and ultimate). I just want 2 things.

1. Rare titles should have unique display instead of normal text. Maybe do something like Steam where if less than x% of players have this title, it will appeared in golden text with sparkle.

2. Too many weapons as reward. Relics and Ultimate already competed with each other being barking weapons, then there are Criterion tomb upgraded on top. I think one of these could be change to armors instead. I almost want to suggest purely cosmetic rewards, although I acknowledged a lot of people prefer big ilv as rewards.

KingKikikoi: 7.2 didn’t save FFXIV for me, it was same old thing. But glad others are enjoying, I’ll probavly won’t resub until next expansion

ftilxe: As somebody who plays on console with a controller, I feel like my conception of "job uniqueness" is on a completely different wavelength from that of those who play with mouse keyboard

A huge chunk of the player base seems (justifiably) bored with the build spend flow of almost every job, but for me what distinguishes jobs from each other is my ability to map keybinds in a way that allows me to execute a job's rotation comfortably and efficiently. Good keybind mapping is of course vital for mouse keyboard as well, but it's just a different beast on controller

When you play on a controller, you're effectively locked out of half your keybinds when you're moving. Unless you're really good at clawing your controller, you can't move and access any keybinds on the d-pad at the same time, so it's a matter of mapping what feels like the most crucial actions to your face buttons.

There are certain elements that you can map the same across jobs, like your single target vs aoe combos, role actions, etc, but it's the unique elements like where I can map a job's specific burst actions that complely make or a break the job for me

That is the only element that distinguishes jobs within a role for me. In that regard, jobs couldn't feel less homogenous because they all have a different flow in the keybinds in terms of what is accessible on face buttons vs d-pad, main hotbar vs extended hotbar, etc.

MugiwarasNakama: Simplifying the jobs is 100% necessary. The over complication of the jobs was a result of how homogeneous encounter designs became... I understand what the black mages were saying. But it's selfish and stagnating to the game to not want changes to be made in the best interest of the health of the game.

gysahlfields7506: No it doesn't. All patches have been amazing. People are just that whiny.

XieRH1988: IMO we need to reserve judgement until occult crescent comes out. The relic grind is the big make or break content for the game's replayability value.

Loyd64: I sometimes wonder if whoever is in charge of machinist balancing legit forgot they took away all their support stuff from Heavensward to shadowbringers like buffing magic damage with a ability similar to bards old mages ballad, or recovering tp with their turret they could place and had a pick of aoe turret or single damage turret.

Also Flamethrower......it was cool when it worked with the job in managing heat, but man.....they really can't give them like a small flame turret so they can dps while it's going?

Furyon1987: 7.2 is not nearly enough, not even close. I will give them the fact that the story was a bit more interesting but other than that... very lackluster. Way too long of a wait for very very little actual content.
