Should You Play The Elder Scrolls Online in 2025? 1000 Hour Review

greorbowlfinder7078: I'm currently redoing Northern Elsweyr with Zerith Var. As a mature game now, ESO still has alot of replayability. The quests are fun to revisit if you pay attention to lore.

dxk65: I started having fun in this game when I stopped treating it like a second job.

FAPDegren: Weapon swapping isn't a turn off because of having to swap weapons. It's a turn off because all you're doing is swapping weapons to reapply buffs or debuffs. It just feels like an extra unnecessary keypress the vast majority of the time instead of an impactful swap. SOMETIMES you swap because you need range instead of melee, that always feels fine.

GW2 has weapon swaps, very few people complain about that because there's a tangible impact in swapping weapons.

severihanninen334: Could also mention about the immature and out of touch devs who will not listen to their playerbase and check the Nefas video before you put any money on this pile of shit..

bluegoose7832: I'm currently playing ESO with my dad as he's a big TES fan but he didn't bother with ESO until Gold Road deluxe edition was on sale for something like £15 month or two ago. He's enjoying it and I'm having fun coming back to a game I last played during lockdown.

I've also started WoW Classic, and I'm enjoying the slow, chill pace of that.

Caluurion: Long long time player. From day one ive played the game. On 3 different systems. And i can honestly say. Im going to turn of my eso plus, i think ive lost all interest in the game and i dont think they will ever make the changes i believe to be necessary to keep me interested. For all those that can still enjoy it have fun but i just cant do it anymore and going back to world of warcraft.

Cooperharley0204: Should you play in 2025?

What type of player are you? Looking for a fun single player RPG? Yea absolutely. Looking for a new MMO as your main MMO? Nah. It’s gone down hill quite a bit from an MMO perspective, but the RPG aspect is still fantastic.

With the new seasonal model, we’ll have to wait and see, but I have little faith in ZOS to make it consumer-friendly. Holding out a strong opinion and stuff though until their April showcase.

gathaspar2831: When I hear "seasonal" its like a pretty girl telling me she's trans. I'm like "oh..ok". I immediately lose all interest.

tetsujin2881: Thank you for doing this video! I've been a long time player since the beta, even have my Monkey pet ;) You do some really awesome build crafting and I'd even bought the guide at one point. I will say ESO is in the best place it's ever been with all the changes over time. Class builds are awesome but I still would like to see more. The arcanist was incredible but it takes forever for them to release new ones. As far as the DLC's and add ons, I typically will run one character through one of them just to do story and typically then shelf the game til the next one. The daily stuff feels hollow and i loathe PVP, in fact with the last huge changes to PVP in battlegrounds our guild doesn't even touch it anymore. Cryodil is just a quick trip to check on the Golden weekly is about it. At any rate. I do enjoy the work you put in and the sharing of information! Incredible! Our guild is small and we meet once a week to run dungeons and possibly do the golden pursuit requirments. Fun stuff! Overall I'm torn somewhat as you've discussed, it's fun but something does feel fairly stale and doesn't keep my interest all that long. I do sub and like I said do once a week so getting my money's worth for sure! Cheaper than going to a movie! :) I did the quick math as was curious how much I've played, did the /play with each character... over 2200 hours. OK, I need a life! Hahhahaha.

F_Around_and_find_out: I think it's better to play other elder scroll games before going to ESO. I played Skyrim, liked the lore, liked the elder scroll world, so I got into ESO for more lores, however dont expect ESO to just works like other elder scroll like Skyrim, it's a bit different.

If you choose to go in: Start small and just explore. Disregard the ESO Plus, you're just a new player getting a feel for the game, ESO Plus is for advanced users. Do claim the ESO Plus trials that Bethesda give out sometimes, 7 days of 95% access to the game.

The game mechanics is generally friendly, for a new player. The longer you play the game and seek out ways to become stronger the more you can do, naturally. Just relax and no rush, ESO is not a fast game.

rabb1tdotcom-ie3vk: Note on following the meta; I've been playing for like 9 years, and I'd say following the meta is only really 'required' if you are doing veteran trials. I've been non-meta and had no difficulty at all in any other content, including regular trials. (And even a very rare veteran trial.)

It will definitely be interesting to see how ESO continues in the future. 10 years is a LONG time for an MMO to survive.

I trust ESO to continue fine. I'm honestly more interested in hearing about ZOSs next MMO. With who they've hired it looks like it could be what I always hoped Destiny 2 would be (a shooter that actually has regular MMO elements.)

TheMadLep: Great informative vid, nice job!

Joelsm3br: The answer is No!: I just did, and they really have much to fix: combat animations are awful, questinf is EXTREMELY EASY unchallenging and not rewarding at all…and the graphics are just bad…. The story telling is good though… crafting is rewarding and theres is quite a lot of exploration… but the main thing: combat and leveling just feels bad

llAzrealll: Honestly after that end of year post? No

horn5558: I jumped back in and i just cant get back into it. Even with a new toon its the same you complete all zones and then there is nothing to do. The same dailies, the same writs there is nothing new. I got bored after 1 day. Which sucks as someone who has played this game for ages. These new updates sound horrible i mean sure pretty graphics and some quality of life but its really adding nothing new.

samlee9216: Finally got serious and and got a foot operated usb switch for the long grind of the fishing trophy. I actually love chilling out and finding good fishing spots.

XtremeXbox: I been playing this game solo and cannot even tell I'm in an MMO! LOL!!! I feel like it's an offline single player ES. And the difficulty is perfect, and I would never know it's an MMO if no one told me. As long as you have a companion, you're good to go. Without one, it does get pretty tough from time to time, especially in dungeons.

tomaskazuja6084: I’m a collector so there is always something to do in this game, achievements, antiquities, furnishings and so on and so on, I’m tapping into the companions and it’s hella fun, wanna make a full tank companion so I can solo most of the content and after all these years I still have a fun and I’m NOT eso plus subscriber, although the inventory management is damaging my mental health from a time to time but it’s still manageable

xezqeznunya6671: Really not complicated at all.

If ya wanna play then play, if ya like it keep playing, if not then stop.

Super super simple.

snarly7346: The character models look awful. The animation rigging is, what, 10 years old? and the characters move like it is.

No thank you.

BjornHogni: NEW PLAYERS BEWARE: it seems with the upcoming DLC they seem to lock new DLC behind a subscription and not offer it on sale for some time. So if you are not into subscriptions, I would wait.

As someone with 1000s of hours this will probably make me drop the game eventually. I got into this game because it was buy to play. But if they change the business model after a decade, I hope this will go the way of Destiny 2: down the drain.

ejhathaway97: Hope this seasonal style doesn't mean you need Eso plus and season pass. Already if you don't have Eso plus it is crippling inventory wise and makes game all about clearing it out w all the crafting mats this game has. If they fix that and include it in season pass, absolute game changer.

williaml7390: I've got probably 4000 hours across Xbox and PC since 2017. I've taken a couple 6 months breaks and am currently going on 4 months without playing. Game was getting old, plus other games and hobbies taking my time. Maybe I'll come back some time. My raid group also fell apart due to the raid leader having irl problems, which was sad.

QuixoticUkulele: Just cancelled ESO . I've been playing this game consistently since 2018 and I'm burnt out. I don't like the direction they were taking then and I surely don't like the idea of season passes.

scott5375: I just canceled my ESO plus sub that I’ve been paying since 2018. Hopefully their changes in 2025 will eventually bring me back to the game I once loved.

aldeonuwu2634: The answer is no if u are not ready to spend a lot of real money, not so mutch for microtransaction, even tho they are there and they are heavy, but for dlcs and sub
