ESO Gutted PvP to Fix LagDid It Work?

DarkParadeHF: If only they would have taken this seriously 8 years ago when the game had hype. I know I'm being salty but this feels like them trying to save face as a last resort before the game gets scrapped.

noah_hill: It felt amazing to see an actual war for the first time in YEARS and it felt even better to have my inputs register.

spacecatet1754: I had a lot of fun during the test. It made me realize how much fun cyro can be without unkillable tanks and ball groups running around.

Aptonoth: So far the vengeance day campaign has been one of the rare times I haven't had ANY lag in Cyrodil since before the Elswyr chapter.

Tommy_The_Gun: For me the experience was very close to OG 2014 cyro. Despite having only access to class base skills the experience was unimaginatively better vs regular cyro. There was no lag at all & stuck in combat bug was gone. FPS was also staying within normal levels with no drops. If you think about it, what we have now during this tests is basically this: We traded "build diversity" (which was not really that great cuz "meta builds") and CP advantage and gear Set advantage (which are very often DLC carry sets) for the most enjoyable, fair, accessible and competitive PvP where all advantage that u can have is: player experience & knowledge & reaction time. What is also cool is that class seems to matter again. U can still play as DPS/Tank/Healer with each class and each class plays differently. I think this is a reasonable trade off and I would like to see ZOS doing similar tests in the future & adjusting things (for example making skills & sets to work differently in PvP & PvE.

I also have a suspension that lag in eso PvP is not caused by skills or animation cancelling, but rather groups. Whenever small scale or ball group, fighting grouped players always is causing lag vs fighting even larger amount of players but not grouped. The larger the group, the greater performance drops & de-syncs & "stuck in combat bug" takes longer to go away (in case of full group it may never go away, the group will need to disband or all die for combat bug to end). I think that ESO might have simply something wrong with how grouping works & how it is coded.

snoozby: Vengeance was so much fun. Reminded me of early ESO pvp.

DrNoxic: No ball grps is a win for me they can build off the test we just had

antbanks88: I like the idea of it, the negative is obviously the build variety however crafting your own PvP build doesn’t really matter when the server performance has been so bad for so many years

ruydecarvalho3927: Great to see Deltia doing more ESO 100% would love to see more!! Would like to know what you think on April 10th after live stream!!

Abralibemu: Was on the blue side for the eternal siege last night. Loved every moment of it. Haven't had so much fun in a long time in ESO (OG 2014 beta tester). Positioning really helped holding our position even when the inner doors we down (many times). Loved it. (Also 40 dad here hehe) TLDR: more chances for epic and meaningful battles VS super quick flipping, I much prefer the former.

linaleahgarcia1516: I absolutely loved Vengeance. It basically levelled the playing field, and I just recently came back to ESO after a nearly 2-year break. While I was never a 1vx pvp'er I was able to 1v2/3/4 because OP players lost their gear bonuses so again, it allows for new/mid-gamers to beat (or be equal) to highly experienced gamers. No gangkers (which I used to do), no bombers (which I used to do), no ball groups = YES to Vengeance. I hope it stays permanently. **Although, I kind of didn't like that only the 'killing blow' player got the credit/AP for kills.

Art_and_Logic: I liked the vengeance pvp . It made me log in after being off for about a year.

callumuk2549: They need to make cyro map smaller. Soooooooooooo much dead space and not enough players to fill it

Ragesauce: My only issue with it is that skill morphs and gear sets in the game that are specifically designed for PVP will now be useless. Will they overhaul the morphs for pure PVE focus now? Will they convert all PVP gear to PVE so u didn't waste your time/money getting them? It seems like they haven't thought this through, and rather than upgrade the servers with the billions they made off the players over the years, they instead want to gut the game more?

I'm skeptical.

desont2384: I know people's complaints about this, heard it the whole week, but for what this test was for yeah it worked. Cyro was fun with the big ass fights all over the place. I do hope future tests they do they'll be adding not just skill lines but morphs as well. super annoying that everything was mag with no stam. i do hope they'll figure something out that's a good middle ground that'll give us numbers with less lag.

yojimbe1: I miss Vengeance already. It was so much fun.

xyourdeus4972: I think its a good thing zos hasn't fully given up on pvp, but I can't say i am happy either. A lot of this could've been preventer with better server maintenance and infastructure.

I mean that massive server architecture update they said they'd do after the server refreshed was phased out and they never mentioned it again since server refresh.

Why do they always find ways to avoid update their servers and instead just opt to remove features from the game to improve performance instead of investing into the game?

sk8legendz: My concern is that they did an overhaul with one of the servers a while ago and for a while, everyone said that performance was fixed, everything was amazing. There were even people switching from console to pc to go play on that server

And then a little while after that, another update happened and the performance went back to being bad

What if they implement the vengeance campaign? Everything's fine for a little bit. They make a couple of updates. And now we have this new campaign with all of the old problems, I'd rather just have what we have now unless they can guarantee that won't happen

lazersamaa: as a low cp loved it. it provided the true large scale battles you imagined when first hearing about cyro

avidnecro: Always do more eso vids brother. Miss the live streams.

VPHydra: I haven’t played ESO in over a year, but it’s the game I’ve spent the most time on. I mainly played PvP, and this does look promising. I hope they keep moving in this direction.

I’d love to see some customization even if it’s limited sets. For me what makes ESO PvP so unique is how different you can make your character compared to other players. I really hope they add some gear sets and maybe a few weapon abilities.

That said, this isn’t the first time they’ve done tests like this only for little to change so only time will tell.

Great video, very informative! :)

TheLostSoulESO: I played all classes through the test for a few hours. As someone who mainly plays a bomber or 1vx, I could tolerate the test changes as far as they went for the week, but here's my personal summary:

Zerg v Zerg was fun, but as a solo player, you were basically helpless to do much of anything besides spam siege (oils preferably) or stand in the back of a breached wall/door and spam AOE heals.

1vx was basically about dead. Numbers in a zerg was the only real meaningful factor and bashing your collective zergs faces together until one side made a mistake, gave up, or otherwise lost was the only way to change an outcome of a fight. I was in an AD defence of Chalman that had over 2400 AD kills, 1500 DC kills, and 1200 EP kills, and AD still lost the fight anyway. It lasted an hour and a half and it was fundamentally fun enough to participate in, but then as a solo player I realized "Wow, the only thing relatively useful for me to do is pour oils on a breach."

Couldn't bomb, couldn't do (much) meaningful group coordination, dueling was decisively mid.

While I understand this was just a test, the only beneficial thing that came from it IMO was the absence of any lag. No stuck in combat bug. If they want to continue building upon this, I'd be interested as long as it opened up ways for other playstyles to be effective. After a while I found myself yawning and deciding to go play other stuff rather than dump oils on people's foreheads to be able to get one kill in a zerg reliably.

SchizhophreniaSurvivor: I am a regular non-pvp player, but Vengance rules made me play whole event in Cyrodiil.

Mostly i played NB and Arcanist.

As complete pvp noob, my expirience went smooth, almost no lags, no disconnects e.t.c, i even managed win fights 1 vs 2-3 ppl, which made me happy.

And of all things above - i literaly left that class identity, that this game lost a years ago.

I wouldn't mind if zos go ahead and make separate campaigns with pre-determined sets/builds, but after 10 years in this game i know zos too well. Even if they did that - it would be complete unplayable garbage, so, i guess, i should go and learn how to build propper pvp builds.

RockCh4lk: 1vX was typically just running around a tower or rock formation playing ring around the rosie for 10 minutes picking off players one by one. It was boring and stale gameplay, and whenever I saw someone running in circles, I just ran away because they obviously didn't want to fight.

I much prefer playing with no lag.

StopItRyan: Vengeance was the most fun I've had in Cyrodiil since the pandemic. I do want my item sets, quests, and delves though.

peggymoexd: Where I definitely think overall it is a positive to simplify cyrodiil and allow for more casual players to come in and not feel like they need to be an absolute sweat, while also improving performance, this 100% alienates hardcore pvp'ers who may even go as far as quitting the game entirely. Hopefully ZOS can strike a nice balance of stripping it all down while still maintaining the more hardcore player base

briankingham175: Vengeance cyrodiil was actually fun to me. I mainly pve while I'll dabble in pvp here and there. I only played 2 evenings, but during that time, I really enjoyed the huge battles! They felt more engaging vs 3 people coming up and demolishing groups in a second. But I can see how things could get boring if it's all about a numbers game.

I also appreciated some of the skills being simplified. I was on my melee templar, then switched to my melee nightblade, and you're definitely right, my nightblade felt so much better!

It was a fun experience overall. Hopefully, this leads in a better direction, especially being a balance between the unkillable zergs and "the larger group will win against the smaller group" scenarios.

And it was good seeing ESO content from you again, deltia!
