Yeah, some spells are better than others, and some are only good situationally, but you can get a whole bunch of spell slots. It's not bad to keep spells around if they're only amazing occasionally and bad the rest of the time. You can just use other spells or even a weapon when they're bad. If you just don't have fun though, that matters. That's a real complaint, and it's totally valid even if I do have fun, because different people think different things are fun.
