hogari: It's not just Furiosa, all of the wannabe Spring Blockbusters seem to be bombing in box office. I'm guessing the economy has finally caught up with the big screen - people just don't have the spare money to spend on cinema, especially knowing they'll get to stream the movies in a couple of months. It's a bit sad, as Furiosa is great.
74gould: For me, rarely going to theaters these days all comes down to money. Taking my family to a movie in the theater costs like a hundred bucks (wtf!!)… I’d rather spend 5 to 20 bucks & watch it at home.
JoeAuerbach: People who are under the age of 45 probably do not actually remember a time when television had not murdered Cinema. So the comparisons are often missing a huge chunk of the story.
When I was a kid, going to the movies was just what you did on weekends. And often on weeknights. And it didn't matter what was playing. You did not always decide what you were going to see before you went. Because there was something. Going was the thing to do. That's where the conversation was happening.
And over the course of my lifetime, that conversation has shifted from theaters to television to streaming services. But it's all been on small screens in the house. And it's not going to go back in the same way that people are not going to go back to the Opera.
There are still operas and there are still musicals and there are still stage plays and there will always be Cinema, but those are no longer the dominant artistic paradigm and they are not going to be again.
patchup: The TV show "Fallout" is an example of what happens when you at least try to keep faithful to the lore of the franchise. Yes, we had people complain about the date of certain events that may or may no mess with the timeline. This was explained by the Bethesda team though. You don't have to be perfect just avoid writers that hate the source material, limit the level of social condemnation you put in your stories, and just put effort into writing good character depth and growth within a good plot.
Even with some of the episodes and subjectively some of the characters not being fully rounded out, the show was overall very enjoyable for long time fans and new viewers alike.
HeavyTopspin: Liam Hemsworth is the diet version of Chris Hemsworth. He's the diet caffeine-free cherry version of Henry Cavill.
georgegiebel3771: Movies are too expensive to casually see anymore with the prices of everything else—even when we want to go see the film. Unfortunate.
GeeOff: This whole AI kill switch idea reminds me of a plot point in Horizon Zero Dawn. It did not go well in that story.
halanhart: I thought the trailer for Furiosa that played before Dune looked absolutely awful. I am also just not that interested in a prequel, especially for a series as ephemeral as Mad Max. The lack of hard lore and continuity was something I liked about it.
Still, hearing that Furiosa is good makes me want to see it. Maybe just not enough to pay at the theater.
Dani_77709: As someone who went to see movies in the cinemas quite frequently, due to economy just being fricked I can't afford to do so anymore.
It sucks a lot and unfortunately I don't know how it can be something that can be fixed so cinemas don't die out. Especially with streaming in the picture.
lovefromshirley: In the words of Yoda (and my therapist), there is no try. You DID communicate the point about commitment needed in the cosmere vs Marvel really well in your previous video! Appreciate the top up, but that video was clear and super interesting and helpful!
haydenrayman1752: Just finished wisdom of crowds so timing couldnt be better
MrBenfranz: Sam Altman and OpenAI are never going to agree to slow down the development of AI. That man is determined to bring about a creation he can't actually control, for some inexplicable reason.
