10 UNSOLVED Mysteries in the Elden Ring DLC

Nitrex-zl5iq: The huge weapon in the dragon corpse looks like a harpoon... the new mystery is how Igon managed to throw it, perhaps just out of pure anger?

cadevon1559: I thought deep about why miquella didn't heal malenia and somehow healed the red mane chick, and I think that has a lot to do with the fact malenia isn't just affected by scarlet rot but she is actually a vessel for the god of rot which I think goes a lot deeper than being able to heal it.

bee6035: Messmer's in-game theme actually answers the question of who his father is. The theme incorporates motifs from Radagon's theme heavily implying that Messmer is his son. This would also add a generation of born empyreans before Marika's relationship with Godfrey, those we know of being Melina and Messmer.

venomsjunkmail: The inside of that giant dragon with its mouth wide open not being a dungeon is criminal. Lock Miyazaki up for that missed opportunity.

c4veman: i blind played thru the DLC fully believing Godwyn would be making an appearance bc of the death knights and other things

wobbegong4366: Bonus mystery: in Midra’s manse there are what appears to be fingers and eggs, nearly identical to what is found in the finger ruins, underneath some fabric.

Are these the 3 fingers and how did they get there?

ronannapier162: The unheard line that you found in the game’s text for #5 is an unused voice-line that originally played over the intro cutscene of the Radahn fight. There are videos uploaded of people who managed to get it to play.

ba6368: Messmer's theme is a remix of Radagon's theme. I would assume he and Melina are Radagon's kids.

braydendionisio1519: Bayles arena could possibly be where Farum Azula was before it flew away: It has the same red sparks that float around in farum, it has a similar design on the edges to farum, it’s filled with strong winds like the tornado, and it has a very circular shape on the map which if placidusax’s arena is farum Azula before being torn apart then matches the shape

alejandroantoniovaladezuva4504: About Miquella’s healing powers: Freya was just infected with the Scarlet Rot, and could be healed just like we do with the Flame Cleanse Me incantation or the Preserving Boluses (both magical and medicinal cures), Malenia cannot be healed because hers is a curse directly from the Outer God that created the rot in the first place

OblivionsAbyss: Bayle isn't the oldest dragon tho he's the oldest of the Drake dragon lineages

DAsrada: The super big dragon and the proximity of Charo's Hidden Grave indicates to me that dragon is Charo, and its blood watered the flowers of the Hidden Grave zone.

pauloeduardodiasdasilva6721: I find the "Malenia and Radahn fight was a ritual send off" theory stupid, to be fair. That makes no sense at all. The fight ended up with the Halightree army in shambles, the Redmanes all messed up and Radahns region made basically a nuclear wasteland.

If you're about to join forces with someone you don't go destroying both your armies and destroying your own stronghold. Justifying that by saying "Radahn is all about war" is pretty much saying Radahn is a complete lunatic

DataDrain02: I doubt there's a new ending. I think, in typical Fromsoft fashion. That dialogue is just cut content they left in the game for... some reason.

Now, if they WANTED a new ending. Getting your "heart stolen", then beating Radabeast. That would have been the best way to do it.... But, nah, that didn't happen.

They likely wanted this DLC to not affect ANYTHING in the base game.... Though, it would have been neat to see base game NPCs, or even bosses react to what you do in the DLC.

Imagine how PISSED Malenia would be if you kill Miquella, then come back to fight her then.... Also, would have been neat if Gideon had something to say. "That is some FINE intel, my friend."

AnubisG0D: The coffins are most likely the "ships" that the Numen used to land on the shores of the Lands Between, back when the Lands of Shadow were still physically part of them. The back of the coffins is actually very reminiscent of old ships. We also use coffins for transportation within the game.

rwberger6: Metyr didn't betray the Greater Will, at some point she was wounded and lost both the ability to recieve communications from the Greater will and give birth to two fingers (giving birth to simple minded finger creepers instead). Most likely what gave her the wound is the finger slayer blade as it lines up with both Metyrs wounds and the the blades description.

MysticalLibraries: Ancient Dragons have 4 wings. So, it's not Florisaxx. You only get dragon hearts from 2 winged dragons. Ancient Dragons give you incantations or smithing stones.

PSNMirru: Torrent having horns always threw me for a loop until we fight the horse-like bosses underground. What that implied to me was that Torrent comes from a line of horse-like spirit entities so maybe Miquella is riding another horse but that still could mean that Torrent was indeed Miquella’s horse at one point. Also in the Storehouse in the Shadow Keep see more bones of giant beasts with horns further implying that there’s more horses like Torrent out there

ShinobiFox1980: If you're asking what the Scadutree is, you might want to consider Jungian psychology wherein the Shadow represents the hidden, repressed and for the most part the inferior and guilt-laden personality of the unconscious, it typically possesses a person's morally reprehensible tendencies, but can also have good parts because it possesses some of our normal instincts, creative impulses and the like.

In essence, you could consider it is not a separate Erdtree, but rather the secretive and darker reflection of the lands between. It is not a separate place, but rather contained within the lands between in such a way that it is only accessible via Miquella's dream, hence you enter through the slumbering egg of Miquella.

It is theoretical that it is where Marika put her misdeeds so a new foundation for the Golden Order could be built.

Archontasil: Who sealed enir ilim? How did miquella enter enir ilim along with mohgs body?

janaguirre4756: For the big dragon, i raise the idea of GIANT GIANTS FIGHTING DRAGONS (there are stupid huge bodies in the lands between so large weapons are a possibility.)

Also food for though, maybe Miqella did all this so that another godwyn event doesn't happen. He tried to do some eclipse and I'm pretty sure that didn't happen because Rahdan is holding the stars in place, and the sun is a star so the eclipse was destined to never happen and probably gave Miqella a cruel reality check that this world isn't right, giving him motivation to be a god and fix everything marika ruined.

And one more is that Miqella was destined to fail. Marika cursed her demigod children, to be whatever they wanted to be, be it a lord, be it a God, but if they fail to become either, they will be sacrifices. Not only that, but since Radagon and the Carian Royals were once wed and united, their fate was intertwined with the stars, so if Rahdan dies, failure is set in motion. By the time Miqella became a god, it was too late because so many demigod children started to die (assuming you killed Rahdan 3rd, making him the first of marikas children to die, godrick doesn't count)

mcsquared5005: The game kind of tells you Radahn didnt want to be Miquella's consort.

1. The spell you get from Miquella says "Miquella sought to accept all that was and would be, but found one who refused to be embraced". I think this was referring to Radahn.

2. in the final boss fight Miquella doesnt have control of Radahn when he is first ressurected. Our player must hurt Radahn enough to stagger him. Then Miquella takes full control of Radahn while hes weakened. The boss fight music supports this thought as well. The ost is purely Radahn's until he is staggered and Miquella takes control of him. Then the music switches to Miquella's theme.

dracoroth05: What about the Scadutree Chalice? Pretty weird that you cant do anything with it despite it even being marked on the map.

m33tballa: Like others pointed out, radagons theme is used in messmers theme. There's nothing to suggest that Messmer was marikas first child. In fact it's stated that Messmer was dispatched from the lands between to the shadow lands to wage the crusade. Queelign, rellana, and others left the lands between with Messmer, thus the crusade on the hornsent occurred after Marika established the golden order. The reason the fire visage and the fell god is on the furnace men is cos it's the enemies that are burnt inside the furnace man, and it's using those motifs is mocking and scaring their enemies we well as illustrating who they've conquered. So we can also presume that due to the furnace giants that the crusade occurred after even the war with the giants. There's also trolls that serve rellana and trolls pledged allegiance to the carians after the war with the fire giants

AS-dx3kw: The Erdtree was a twin tree since the beginning, it is the light tree dark tree intertwined together and its location is exactly the same place where Erdtree is in the base game. It should have the quality of life and death, light and shadow, and every concept contradicting each other. However, when Marika sealed away the Shadow Realm, the physical body of both trees was removed from the world hence Marika made a glowing phantom tree to replace the Erdtree. This might be because Marika always wishes to get rid of all the darkness in the world, but the twin trees can not be separated, so might as well just seal them both away and only leave the "good part" in people's vision.

iplayfifasadge: The word "Shadow" in Elden Ring has many different interpretations, the biggest one being, in my opinion, the Shadows of the Empyreum.

I think the Scadutree is like that type of Shadow.

Cybershroom: ''Two Finger Gesture'' the most mysterious thing since the Dark Souls 1 Pendant.

michaelsmith2619: Don't know if anyone's tried this yet. It is pretty simple. Get double grabbed by miquela and then don't beat him. Go beat the base game having miquela still alive, but you've been hit by his charm in the boss battle.

HenningMelon: In regards to the "secret" ending, has anyone tried having their heart stolen, and then going *without re-entering the radahn arena*

Jasper_Silva: While the map doesn't line up perfectly, I think the idea is that the new map is meant to at some point had been the center of the old map (in universe, not as in an older version of the game or anything), but stuff just moved out of place with time. The suppressing tower in the middle is probably meant to be right on the intersection of the 6 divine towers around the central chasm in the original map. Since the towers are very peculiarly placed and always pointed to nothing.

user-ik4yz7yc3c: What happened to Godwyn The Golden?! In base game Miqiellas whole thing was to cure Melania and revive Godwyn

DispariScuro: As far as Bayle and Placidusax's feud goes, there is an NPC in the Elder's Hovel where you get the Talisman of the Dread who talks about Bayle. All he says is that Bayle is furious at the ancient dragons and calls them proud, conceited, and arrogant. So maybe Bayle just hated how they thought they were better than the drakes (or him) and decided to rebel. But I think that's about all we get as far as why they fought.

angbald: My Bayle Placidusax theory is that Bayle was so disgusted with the coddling of humans after the dragon cult sprang up and dragons lowered themselves to the level of human. Bayle challenges Placidusax and does a lot of damage but ultimately is thrown down from Farum Azula and lands on Jagged Peak.

BrassPetals3Voices: I had always assumed that we shared Torrent with Miquella. When we dismissed Torrent, he returned to Miquella's side (and probably acted as his eyes and ears to report back to Miquella).

KenKaneki-zj7qo: Messmer's father is Radagon. It's in his boss's music, and it is shown in the trailer that Marika turned into Radagon during the betrayal.

Miquella's dialogue was in the Radahn fight when he grabs and charms you.

Melenia isn't infected with scarlett rot, she IS scarlett rot.

LaughableSynonyms: Interesting to note that Miquella's curse of eternal nascency affects his entire being, motivations, aspirations and ambitions.

1. Castle Sol and the plot to deliver Godwyn a true death. - Failed.

2. Miquella's plan to cure Malenia of scarlet rot - Failed.

3. The Haligtree, a place where all outcasts could live in peace. - Failed.

4. The Age of Compassion. - Failed.

It seems Miquella will remain forever young and his plans will never come to fruition.

gedoplanet: I think Radahn changed his mind about the vow so Malenia went after him. Maybe him getting a great rune changed his decision

KaramAshour-g1v: Hey, Elden Ring lore nerd here! I’m gonna attempt to solve each of these mysteries as best as I can:

1) The dragon is likely a dragon similar to greyoll (although as shown by Zullie the Witch, it is much larger than greyoll), is a child of greyoll that grew to be much larger than her and escaped to the shadow realm, likely to avoid the drake warriors, such as us, but yet fell to the drake warriors of the shadow realm. I like to believe that that large weapon in the back of it’s head was either A) Used by the dragon god to kill this dragon or B) Was a harpoon fired from either a giant ballista of sorts or thrown with the strength of a thousand drake warriors (literally, as in a lot of drake warriors threw it there). It also is definitely NOT Florissax’s old form.

2) I like to believe that the reason they duelled comes down to their names. The weak, feeble dragons of today are NOT called dragons, instead, they are called Drakes. Placidusax is the Dragonlord, and since Bayle is the father of all Drakes, he is likely a Drakelord of sorts. So this could’ve been due to a war of factions.

3) With Zullie actually covered this in a video, and it turns out that these are actually boats of some sorts, which could explain why they are there.

4) This one is quite obvious. His father was VERY likely Radagon. I mean, think about it, Malenia was cursed with rot, Miquella with youth, and since Messmer is a child of Marika and Radagon, the serpent inside him. It makes sense. It’s also likely that the furnace golems look like the fell god as a sort of MOCKERY towards Messmer’s father Radagon for abandoning him. As we all know, Radagon was cursed with his red hair by the giants, hence the reason he hated it.

5) I have no idea whatsoever. I have done more research on this than you can imagine, and I genuinely have no clue. I think this is probably a job for a community effort.

6) It is likely cut content and I don’t think that there is an “Age of Abundance” ending.

7) I don’t think Radahn consented. It is likely miquella sent malenia to kill Radahn for the same reason WE kill him, so miquella can use him to ascend to godhood.

8) The greater will likely abandons a lot because it has no reason to stay with us. I mean, why would it? It is confirmed by Ymir that a long time ago in space, the greater will and the frenzied flame were two parts of the same thing, and they split. The greater will causes suffering, while the frenzied flame burns the suffering away.

9) The scadutree’s grace might be for a different purpose, but I still don’t know.

10) Who said torrent is the ONLY spectral steed? There could be a bunch, they could be a whole bunch of them, like a specie of some sort.

Anyways, that is all. If I have made any mistakes, please correct me!

NOVA2509: So about some of those mysteries...

Messmer's dad right ? According to an old theory, people thought that the butterflies found in he lands between symbolized the children that Marika and Radagon had (Aeonian butterfly for Malenia, Nascent for Miquella and supposedly smoldering for Melina). Now that the dlc has a 4th butterfly and that the connection of Melina and Messmer was made, I'm pretty sure that the whole theory is confirmed.

About St Trina plant like body, a friend of mine reminded me that the Radagon we meet was kinda made of some sort of clay. So supposedly, all discarded flesh went in some kind of transformation before or after becoming whole again.

And lastly if Radahnn agreed to the consort thing at all ? Absolutely not. Why not resurrect Radahnn in his own body instead of choosing a vessel that is easily manipulated by Miquella's powers ? Yes, it is stated in the rememberance.
