lawl6769: i started playing 2 weeks ago and immediately gravitated to lantern shield because i wanted extra utility slots for other things since it had a built in light...the parry was just a nice bonus in my noob brain :^)

Rapier mastery makes it stronger too due to how the perk works. Its not like dagger mastery where you actively need to be stabbing with a dagger for the perk to activate. If a rapier is in your hand, Any off hand is 2. (Bards just a slayer fighter that actually works)

92F0XBody: After putting 400 hours into longsword parrying/fighting, I can wholeheartedly say the lantern shield is underrated AF.

It’s the same exact thing as parrying with a longsword, but since it’s a shield its hitbox is way bigger and it just feels so much nicer blocking with it.

The riposte damage multiplier is crazy too! So much fun to use

FalchionEdge: It has been beyond broken, if you use it with a warhammer it will 2 shot anyone to the head. Here's the math for a legendary lantern on a riposte BEFORE any additional damage. 32 x 1.25 (riposte) x 1.5 (impact zone) x 1.5 (headshot) = 90 and you get to do it twice so a total of 180 damage per shield block. You can easily get that even higher. This is a joke compared to longsword which is much harder to parry.
